Visible Action Components of the Utterance: Structure and Co-ordination with the Spoken Component

After briefly pointing out some of the features that distinguish  
utterance visible actions from other kinds of visible bodily actions
observed in human interaction, I will present an analysis of the
phrasal organization of manual utterance visible actions (manual
"gestures") with examples of how this is co-ordinated with the
prosodic phrasal organization of co-occurring speech. This should be
of interest to anyone concerned with the analysis of gestures in
