Change Managment within Project Processes - a case study at Alfa Laval

More and more corporations around the world is starting to work in project form and leaving their traditional function based way of organising themselves behind. This leads to new ways of driving and implementing changes and improvements. It requires another approach and this approach has to deal with the individual employee in a greater extend. Alfa Laval often questions how to make a project to

Structural basis of inhibition of the human serine hydroxymethyltransferase SHMT2 by antifolate drugs

Serine hydroxymethyltransferase (SHMT) is the major source of 1-carbon units required for nucleotide synthesis. Humans have cytosolic (SHMT1) and mitochondrial (SHMT2) isoforms, which are upregulated in numerous cancers, making the enzyme an attractive drug target. Here, we show that the antifolates lometrexol and pemetrexed are inhibitors of SHMT2 and solve the first SHMT2-antifolate structures.

Millennials’ perception of luxury online - the older the better?

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop an understanding of consumers' perception of heritage in luxury brands online. This will be investigated from a consumer perceived value perspective, with regard to the following aspects of value; social, economic, functional and affective. Methodology: An epistemological and ontological foundation guides the research approach of qualitative so

Aktivitetsgrad och Avkastning

Mutual fund savings in Sweden has during the last 40 years gone from close to nil to represent a large portion of the private and public savings within the country. However, in recent years, the occurrence of closet indexing has been brought to light by researchers and media. Closet indexing is considered to be the fund manager’s failure to manage the fund portfolio as actively as is otherwise adv

Soil N chemistry in oak forests along a nitrogen deposition gradient

Anthropogenic N deposition may change soil conditions in forest ecosystems as demonstrated in many studies of coniferous forests, whereas results from deciduous forests are relatively scarce. Therefore the influence of N deposition on several variables was studied in situ in 45 oak-dominated deciduous forests along a N deposition gradient in southern Sweden, where the deposition ranged from 10 to

Reductive cleavage of the O-O bond in multicopper oxidases: a QM/MM and QM study

The key step in the reaction mechanism of multicopper oxidases (MCOs)-the cleavage of the O-O bond in O-2-has been investigated using combined quantum mechanical and molecular mechanical (QM/MM) methods. This process represents a reaction pathway from the peroxy intermediate after it accepts one electron from the nearby type-1 Cu site to the experimentally-observed native intermediate, which is th

Enhancement of loop heat pipe performance with the application of micro/nano hybrid structures

To further improve the flat-type loop heat pipe (LHP) performance, this study evaluates the practical potential of use of highly enhanced boiling structures. It is found that in our proposed new heat pipe (NHP) system, the working fluid from the evaporator outlet to the condenser inlet is in a liquid–vapor two phase flow, which is different from the classical LHP theory. A new P-T diagram is devel

Does the Timing of Integrating New Skills Affect Start-up Growth?

Research SummaryGrowth often requires start‐ups to recruit new skills not present in the founding team. We analyze if the relationship between integrating new skills and growth depends on timing. Should new skills be recruited as early as possible, or can start‐ups add them as needed along the way? Using a unique panel dataset covering Sweden's population of start‐ups from 1997 to 2012, our analys

Uncovering Customer Orientation in Product Development - A Qualitative Study based on the Software Industry

PURPOSE: The purpose of this research project is to further advance theory on management of product development by providing insights on customer orientations. The study contributes to the literature by bringing in Actor-Network Theory (ANT) as a new perspective to theorize the process of translations between customer orientation and engineering orientation within product development. RELEVANCE:

How successful employees at Corporate Market in Síminn develop their competence at work: an interview study of some of the employees' own experiences.

In today's ever changing business world, the competitiveness of organizations relies on employees' competencies, which entails the fact that employees' contributions become more valuable than ever before. The main purpose of the study was to identify which strategies are used by successful employees at Corporate Market in Síminn (an Icelandic company which handles telecommunications) i

Fine Mapping the Spatial Distribution and Concentration of Unlabeled Drugs within Tissue Micro-Compartments Using Imaging Mass Spectrometry

Readouts that define the physiological distributions of drugs in tissues are an unmet challenge and at best imprecise, but are needed in order to understand both the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties associated with efficacy. Here we demonstrate that it is feasible to follow the in vivo transport of unlabeled drugs within specific organ and tissue compartments on a platform that appli

Science with the Cherenkov Telescope Array

The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA), will be the major global observatoryfor very high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray astronomy over the next decadeand beyond. The scientific potential of CTA is extremely broad: fromunderstanding the role of relativistic cosmic particles to the search for darkmatter. CTA is an explorer of the extreme universe, probing environmentsfrom the immediate neighbourhood of black

Understanding environmental performance variation in manufacturing companies

Purpose: Sustainability is an area of increasing interest for industry and its stakeholders, and some companies now aspire to address sustainability issues (e.g. carbon emissions) at strategic and operational levels. As companies are exploring the issues, they attempt to embed sustainability in their planning and management systems. It is at this point that the domains of environmental concern and

A robust Multi-Band Water Index (MBWI) for automated extraction of surface water from Landsat 8 OLI imagery

Surface water is vital resources for terrestrial life, while the rapid development of urbanization results in diverse changes in sizes, amounts, and quality of surface water. To accurately extract surface water from remote sensing imagery is very important for water environment conservations and water resource management. In this study, a new Multi-Band Water Index (MBWI) for Landsat 8 Operational
