The Number of the Soul : Theology and the Metaphysics of Integrated Information Theory

Following the claim in Fides et Ratio that »[m]etaphysics … plays an essential role of meditation in theological research« (John Paul II 1998), I examine how the neuroscientists Christof Koch and Giulio Tononi's Integrated Information Theory (IIT) challenges a physicalist view on consciousness and even life.

Rapporten syftar

Proof of Concept : Typesetting of Research in the Academic Publishing Industry

The production, reading and correcting of article proofs is a highly important part of scholarly publishing, and the proof of an article is the only place where researcher, journal production team and publisher come together, directly or indirectly. Yet, the proof process is rarely examined or discussed, and scholars seem to regard it as something separated from the research process. Nanny families : Practices of care by nannies, au pairs, parents and children in Sweden

Paying privately for childcare is a growing phenomenon, and its rise in Sweden is particularly interesting because of the vast prevalence there of publicly funded day care. This book combines family practice and childhood studies theory with the personal perspectives of nannies and au pairs, parents, and the children themselves, to provide new understandings of what constitutes ‘good care’. The au

Iceland Should Replace Its Central Bank with a Currency Board.

In this contribution, we discuss the menu of policy regimes available for Iceland. Each regime is evaluated against the characteristics of the Icelandic economy. We start with a short description of the Icelandic economy. We then examine the costs and benefts of alternative monetary regimes. We conclude that no regime Iceland has tried since attaining full sovereignty in 1918 has provided economic

Paul's Argumentation in Galatians 3.6-14

Gal. 3.6-14 is one of many passages in the letters of Paul which is difficult because of the argumentation it contains. An argumentation analysis is therefore called for to disentangle the arguments and to recover any implicit premisses. Such an analysis gives a more complete picture of Paul’s argumentation and helps us understand and evaluate it. The analysis indicates that Paul is attempting to

Plasma proenkephalin A 119-159 and dipeptidyl peptidase 3 on admission after cardiac arrest help predict long-term neurological outcome

BACKGROUND: A large proportion of adult survivors of cardiac arrest have a poor neurological outcome. Guidelines recommend multimodal neuro-prognostication no earlier than 72-96 hours after cardiac arrest. There is great interest in earlier prognostic markers, including very early markers at admission. The novel blood biomarkers proenkephalin A 119-159 (penKid), bioactive adrenomedullin (bio-ADM)

Children´s Rights in Education : Experiences from 16 countries in Global South during 18 years as researchers and teachers

The aim of this report book in Sociology of Law, and Child Rights Institute, Lund University, is to gather, sum up and report, in a summarizing overview in an introduction followed by three concluding articles, our main experiences as researchers and teachers after 2016.That year, 2016, the English version of the Sida-funded international training program, Child Rights, Classroom and School ManageThe aim of this report book in Sociology of Law, and Child Rights Institute, Lund University, is to gather, sum up and report, in a summarizing overview in an introduction followed by three concluding articles, our main experiences as researchers and teachers after 2016.That year, 2016, the English version of the Sida-funded international training program, Child Rights, Classroom and School Manage

Intrauterine blood flow and postnatal neurological development in growth-retarded fetuses

Intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) is associated with abnormal neuro-developmental outcome. Aortic blood flow velocity waveforms have been shown to predict fetal distress in IUGR. Fetal aortic blood flow velocity waveforms were correlated to neuro-developmental performance at 7 years of age. Results suggest that abnormal fetal aortic blood flow velocity waveforms are associated with neuro-deve

Towards a More Inclusive University - Supporting Teachers Through Universal Design for Learning

The diversity among Swedish university students is steadily increasing. The students have different backgrounds, experiences, interests, learning styles and abilities. Also, there are more students with disabilities at Swedish universities, especially invisible disabilities. Teachers need to adapt their teaching and curricula, and can no longer wait to do this until they spot a student with divers

En landskapsanalys av runstenarna Sm 36 och Sm 37 i Bolmaryd

This analysis comprises part of a larger project on the placement of rune-stones in the local area of Tiohärad. It considers two rune-stones, Sm 36 and Sm 37, in Bolmaryd. The older stone, Sm 36, is placed in the grounds of what would have been a large farmhouse or village and could only have been seen by its householders and visitors. The text is short and simply refers to a family relationship. This analysis comprises part of a larger project on the placement of rune-stones in the local area of Tiohärad. Striving towards normality in an unpredictable situation. A qualitative interview study of how persons newly diagnosed with incurable oesophageal and gastric cancer manage everyday life

Purpose: Getting an incurable oesophageal or gastric cancer diagnosis is a major stressful life event associated with severe physical, psychosocial and existential challenges. To provide timely and efficient support, based on patients' experiences, the aim of the study was to explore how patients newly diagnosed with incurable oesophageal and gastric cancer manage everyday life. Method: Semi-struc

COATED NANOPOROUS STRUCTURES SUBJECTED TO STRESS RELIEF ANNEALING

In this study, the mechanical improvement of the platinum coated nanoporous gold is investigated by performing molecular dynamics simulations. The tensile properties of the structure is enhanced by a stress relief annealing which prevents the high stress concentration observed between the coating and the core materials. The annealing process is performed at 500K for 100ps with a heating and coolin

Big Science, Big Data, Big Innovation? : ERIC Policies on IP, Data and Technology Transfer

Science originates knowledge and downstream innovation. “Big” science is likely to, along the line, give rise to “big” innovation. Large research infrastructures are characterized by containing a large number of partners involved in complex networks of internal and external collaborations. This chapter explores how large research infrastructures (broadly defined) manage internally and externally t

Interaction between Cyclists and Motor Vehicles : the role of infrastructure design and vehicle characteristics

Unions and the rights of migrants in the long run

We use historical data on union density and new historical data on policies toward migrants to study the long-run relationship between the strength of trade unions and the social and economic rights of migrants in the Global North. In countries with strong trade unions, there was, for a long time, a widening distance between the rights of migrants and the rights of citizens, probably because the r
