We present a novel, integrated microfluidic system based on acoustophoretic cell-handling that detects bacteria in whole blood in less than 2 hours, substantially faster than current standard methods for detection of sepsis-causing bacteria. There is increasing evidence suggesting a role of intestinal dysfunction in a number of autoimmune diseases.
