Collaborating for nature-based solutions: bringing research and practice together

Nature-based solutions (NBS) is a relatively novel concept and real-world application has only started to proliferate in cities, which motivates addressing early attempts of cross-boundary collaboration for implementing NBS. The aim of this paper is to reflect about the process of transdisciplinary research-practice collaboration on NBS and its associated learnings, potentials and challenges. To d

Visualization of soil aggregate structures provides insights into their formation mechanisms induced by litter inputs

Soil aggregation is a dynamic process influenced by physical, chemical and biological factors; however, their individual and combined effect on the formation and turnover of aggregates is not well understood. The aim of this study was to examine incorporation of fresh litter inputs of different physicochemical properties including their carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio – maize (C/N = 12) and straw (

Can Collaborative housing foster the housing-integration nexus? Tensions and synergies in case studies from Sweden and Switzerland

There is a need of problematizing taken for granted assumptions in the conceptualization of collaborative housing when attempting to link collaborative housing and social integration. What are the difficulties and opportunities that migrants and non-migrants face in accessing collaborative housing projects? Addressing such type of questions will help to capture exclusionary processes affecting old

Type A Aortic Dissection Repair in Patients With Prior Cardiac Surgery

Background: Emergency surgery for acute type A aortic dissection in patients with previous cardiac surgery is controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the association between previous cardiac surgery and outcomes after surgery for acute type A aortic dissection, to appreciate whether emergency surgery can be offered with acceptable risks. Methods: All patients operated on for acute type A aorti

Matematiska modeller för beslutsfattande hos människor, djur och maskiner

Subantarctic flowering plants: pre-glacial survivors or post-glacial immigrants?

Aim The aim here was to assess whether the present-day assemblage of subantarctic flowering plants is the result of a rapid post-Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) colonization or whether subantarctic flowering plants survived on the islands in glacial refugia throughout the LGM. Location The circumpolar subantarctic region, comprising six remote islands and island groups between latitudes 46 degrees and

Sex‐based differences in cardiac resynchronization therapy upgrade and outcome for patients with pacemaker and new‐onset heart failure

BackgroundPatients with chronic right ventricular (RV) pacing are at an increased risk of heart failure. Previous studies have indicated that cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is underused in this setting, and that there may be sex-based differences in both CRT use and clinical outcome.ObjectiveTo evaluate sex-based differences in CRT use and clinical outcome for patients with new-onset hear

Multidetector computed tomography for characterization of calcium deposits in reperfused myocardial infarction

Background: Calcium overload is a major cause of reperfusion myocardial injury. Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) has been previously used in visualizing coronary artery calcium, but not calcium deposits in reperfused infarction. Purpose: To assess the ability of MDCT to 1) noninvasively visualize and characterize calcium deposits in reperfused infarcts, and 2) monitor regional wall swellin

Compilation and Translation : Johannes Widekindi and the Origins of his Work on a Swedish-Russian War

The purpose of the dissertation is to trace the working process of Johannes Widekindi (ca 1620–1678), Swedish historiographer of the Realm, when writing his bilingual history of the Swedish military actions in Russia in 1609–1617, published in 1671 in Swedish as Thet Swenska i Ryssland tijo åhrs Krijgz-Historie and in 1672 in Latin as Historia Belli Sveco-Moscovitici Decennalis.Chapter 1 of the di

Shock and stabilisation following long-term drought in tropical forest from 15 years of litterfall dynamics

Litterfall dynamics in tropical forests are a good indicator of overall tropical forest function, indicative of carbon invested in both photosynthesising tissues and reproductive organs such as flowers and fruits. These dynamics are sensitive to changes in climate, such as drought, but little is known about the long-term responses of tropical forest litterfall dynamics to extended drought stress.

Johan Ekeblad : Kulturskridning, mentalitet, genre

Johan Ekeblad was a Swedish diplomat and nobleman during the period of the Swedish Empire in the 17th century who is mostly known for his letters, written in an impressionistic and highly modern style. This paper aims to treat Johan Ekeblad and his writing as a representative of a new form of mentality that emerged amongst Swedes when Sweden due to its new power reemerged on the European scene. Th

Transmission of stress-induced learning impairment and associated brain gene expression from parents to offspring in chickens

Background. Stress influences many aspects of animal behaviour and is a major factor driving populations to adapt to Changing living conditions, such as during domestication. Stress can affect offspring through non-genetic mechanisms, but recent research indicates that inherited epigenetic modifications of the genome could possibly also be involved. Methodology/Principal Findings. Red junglefowl (

Corporate social responsibility and stock market actors : A comprehensive study

Purpose– The purpose of this study is to analyse the views stock market actors have on corporate communication of corporate social responsibility (CSR) information grounded on legitimacy and stakeholder theory. Recent findings suggest that management teams experience an increased interest and demand for CSR information from the actors on the stock market and that this underlie a focus shift. This
