Barnets bästa är en grundläggande princip i svensk familjerätt. Enligt 6 kap. 2 a § föräldrabalken (FB) ska barnets bästa vara avgörande i alla frågor om vårdnad, boende och umgänge. Den 1 januari 2025 trädde en lagändring i kraft, vilket innebar en omformulering av bestämmelsen. Lagändringen medförde att risken för att barnet far illa ges en mer framträdande plats i bedömningen av barnets bästa.
