Cholesterol-rich clusters of SNARE (soluble NSF attachment protein receptor) proteins have been implicated as being important for exocytosis. Here we demonstrate the significance of cholesterol for normal biphasic insulin secretion in mouse beta cells by removal of cholesterol from the plasma membrane using methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MBCD). Maximal inhibition of insulin secretion in static incubati

Inflammation influences several steps of adult neurogenesis, but whether it regulates the functional integration of the new neurons is unknown. Here, we explored, using confocal microscopy and whole-cell patch-clamp recordings, whether a chronic inflammatory environment affects the morphological and electrophysiological properties of new dentate gyrus granule cells, labeled with a retroviral vecto

The Peruvian specimens of the family Cerambycidae Latreille, 1802 (Coleoptera) housed in the Biological Museum at Lund University in Sweden are cataloged and illustrated. Photographs of dorsal habitus, labels, and complete label data of all the specimens are provided. There are 81 specimens belonging to 38 species, 29 genera, three subfamilies, and 19 tribes. Anisopodus ligneus Bates, 1863 is a ne

FAQ: Is nano dangerous?

Q: Are nanoparticles/nanotechnology dangerous for humans?A: The overarching purpose of nanotechnology is to create better circumstances for humans and environment. If the nano industry can grow, it can help us to solve the energy crisis, save the environment, and diagnose and cure adverse diseases. Nanotechnology can be used for cheap and easy water purification, available and cheap energy, faster

This thesis examines legal tensions arising from the interaction between OECD/G20 IF Administrative Guidance and the Pillar Two Directive within the EU legal order. While the Pillar Two Directive remains locked into version of OECD/G20 IF Pillar Two rules as they stood in 2022, the OECD/G20 IF continues to develop its Pillar Two framework through subsequent Administrative Guidance. The thesis exam

Ultrashort laser pulses play an important role in many applications in science and technology, from attosecond science to time resolved spectroscopy and material processing. For applications of ultrashort laser pulses, it requires a complete characterization of the electric field of the pulse, which includes both phase and amplitude of the electric field. The characterization of ultrashort laser p

To study adhesion in flexible laminates, standardised peel tests are commonly used where macroscopic measurements, e.g. peel force versus peel arm displacement, are extracted. However, insights into the adhesion mechanisms at the microscopic scale are limited. This study has developed a framework for determining peel arm geometry parameter evolution and deformation in packaging material laminates.

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the possibility of application of the cluster based rural development approach in Armenia to promote its structural transformation. Case study was selected as a research methodology, and both qualitative and quantitative methods were employed. Analysis of the key findings from the ‘field’, i.e. - the potential cluster, shows that rural households pract

This paper critically examines sexual risk reduction interventions, more specifically how they are evaluated and the implications that this has for sexual health policy. The focus is on motivational interviewing (MI) interventions which aim to promote protective behaviors related to sexual risk on the part of young people. MI has become increasingly popular, largely due to it being a highly flexib

Nanoindentation is a useful experimental method to characterize the micromechanical properties of materials. In this study molecular dynamics and peridynamics are used to simulate nanoindentation, with a spherical indenter targeting a thin single crystal Cu film, resting on an infinitely stiff substrate. The objective is to compare the results obtained from molecular dynamic simulations to those o

The Syrian civil war has been described as a first example of the conflicts expected in the wake of climate change. The conflict, which started in 2011, was preceded by a severe drought in 2007–2009 that hit agriculture and the rural population hard. But what do we really know about what happened to Syria’s climate and agriculture before and after the start of the conflict? In this article, I summ

IntroductionThis study is part of an international collaboration that investigates teachers’ attitudes and responses to vignettes depicting school bullying situations. As per Bandura's model of reciprocal determination, attitudes and behavior in these situations can be influenced by individual and contextual factors. This study specifically examines several factors related to teachers ‘professio

This paper analyses how racial wage gaps amongst women in the Brazilian urban labour market have evolved in response to a strong increase in workers’ skills between 2001 and 2011. For this purpose, Melly (2005, 2006) quantile decomposition frameworks will be applied using PNAD data. In so doing we acknowledges a gap in the literature by focusing on women instead of men, extending wage decompositio
