Studien publiceras i tidskriften Science Advances.

Projekt

Tracing an academic startup’s journey from lab discovery to cancer therapy

– I have red cells in my dish! When the phone call from PhD student Fábio Rosa came through, Professor Filipe Pereira knew that this was the start of something big. All their work had been leading to this moment. The red cells in the dish were from a mouse, and Filipe and his colleagues had been trying to reprogramme them into dendritic cells, specfically type 1 conventional dendritic cells, (cDC1

Obstacles and opportunities for circular fashion consumption

The clothing industry poses a sustainability challenge, and whilst the circular economy may be the solution, it is difficult to bring about a transition that suits consumers. A recently completed research project investigated consumers’ attitudes towards circular fashion consumption and the barriers to making the transition. Today’s fashion industry faces several sustainability challenges. Fast fa

New DNA technology could support police investigations

Where were the suspects located before a crime was committed? Where was a bomb assembled or a batch of drugs produced? A new technique that analyzes environmental DNA could help provide answers. Geneticist Eran Elhaik at Lund University has developed an AI-based tool designed to support forensic investigations. The technology uses environmental DNA (eDNA) to help determine geographical origin from

New project fills knowledge gaps on the climate impact of hydrogen emissions

Hydrogen is expected to play an important role in the transition to a climate-neutral society. Although hydrogen is not a greenhouse gas with a direct climate impact, there are large knowledge gaps about its indirect impacts on the climate and environment. The Horizon Europe-funded research project HYway aims to fill these gaps. We spoke to David Wårlind from Lund University who is leading one of

Amyloid Oligomers, capturing the threat between disorder and order: a PhD thesis by Lei Ortigosa-Pascual

Popular Science SummaryWe are all familiar with the idea that living organisms are made of atoms and molecules. But not everyone knows that one of those molecules that are crucial for our lives are proteins. And no, they aren’t just something we have to eat. Proteins are an essential molecule which form our cells, together with fat, sugars, and nucleic acids. Proteins are the workforce of the cell
