They want to create real change with their research

This week, a first workshop was held for SWEAH PhD students who want to learn more about impact, collaborating with actors outside academia and how to reach decision-makers and achieve real change. It is not always easy and it requires structured work, the participants noted. On October 15, SWEAH is arranging a second workshop, when a tool that can facilitate this will be examined in more detail.

Better control of older adults' everyday activities with AI

New technology can make it easier for older adults to be active, but they must be involved in the development of the technology. This is evident in a new thesis by William Son Galanza, a SWEAH PhD student in the Applied Gerontology research group in Lund, who has developed an AI model that can categorize the everyday activities of older adults. The reliability of scientific methods under scrutiny

How credible are research results? A new biology study shows that the same data can give different answers depending on the method of analysis used – raising questions about the stability of scientific conclusions. To strengthen credibility, researchers need to be better at accounting for their methods. Ever since the 17th century, when modern scientific research was born, methods have been refine

Migrating roach have sharper eyesight

Roach that migrate between different lakes and water courses have larger pupils and better eyesight than roach that stay in one place. The adaptation makes it easier for the red-eyed freshwater migrants to find food in murky waters. This is shown in a large study from Lund University in Sweden. Animals’ eyes, just like those of humans, are a kind of window to the world. Eyesight controls important
