What determines inequality and mobility of wealth? This paper quantifies in closed form both the bottom and the top (Pareto) tail of the distribution for a rich continuous-time model. The distribution is especially shaped by bequest motives, demographics, and the asset portfolio composition under idiosyncratic wealth risk. Factors that increase inequality also reduce mobility. The model - enriched

Working in the text editor

The text editor appears in various places within Drupal, where you need to do a bit more with your text than you can in a standard text field. Much of what you can do will be familiar to you from a standard word processor such as Word. Here below are som short guides and explanations for the tools in the text editor called "Body".  Bold and italics  B makes the text bold; I makes the text italic.

In Europe, Scandinavia holds the largest concentration of rock art (i.e. petroglyphs), created c. 5000–first century bc, many of them showing figurative and seemingly narrative representations. In this paper, we will discuss possible narratological approaches applied to these images. We might reasonably distinguish between three levels of pictorial narrativity: representations of (i) single events

This paper is a discussion of theory and methods used in intrasite spatial analysis - the analysis of "living floors". Processes in the formation of the archaeological record such as abandonment, discard, loss, and caching, are discussed. There is also some investigation into factors which may disturb or obscure patterning on an occupation site. Examples to illustrate the discussion are taken from

The question of what makes ‘Nordic’ music distinctive is a matter of some dispute. Does it exist? Or, in what ways is it able to manifest itself? Like nationality, it is a construction of identity that emerges through discourses on music and on Nordicness. Essentially it is an open signifier, as concepts of Nordicness can be identified either with something dark, cold and obscure or as something r

The aim of the present study is to cast some light on the realisation of sj- and tj-sounds (/ɧ/ and /ɕ/) in Estonian Swedish. These sounds are said not to occur in this variety of Swedish, or to have a different realisation as compared to Standard Swedish (Lagman, 1979). Our analysis, based on repetitions of elicited words produced by five elderly speakers of Estonian Swedish, shows that sj- and t

This paper presents an independent evaluation of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council (IFAC) carried out in 2015. IFAC was set up as an independent fiscal institution in 2011 to monitor the fiscal policy of the Irish government. This paper explores the evolution of Swedish fiscal policy from one extreme approach to another one in less than four decades. After the demise of the Bretton Woodssystem in the early 1970s, Swedish fiscal policy was based on a Keynesian approach with the goal to stabilize the business cycle and maintain full employment using a large set of instruments in a discretionary manner. In the wake of the

Socioeconomic related health inequality as measured by a bivariate rank dependent index, of which the concentration index is a leading example, is well documented across a wide number of countries and measures. To decompose an inequality index is to ascertain the potential causes of this measured inequality. Current available regression based decomposition methods applicable to bivariate rank depe

Long-run saving dynamics are a crucial component of consumption-saving behavior. This paper makes two contributions to the consumption literature. First, we exploit inheritance episodes to provide novel causal evidence on the long-run effects of a large financial windfall on saving behavior. For identification, we combine a longitudinal panel of administrative wealth reports with variation in the

This paper investigates the evolution of income inequality in Spain during its transition to democracy, suggesting a method for the correction of under-reporting of earnings and profits in the Household Budget Surveys’ data. The contribution is twofold: the methodological proposal, based on income-expenditure discrepancy and scaling-up to National Accounts, improves on previous work, and can be co

How do men and women differ in their persistence after experiencing failure in a competitive environment? We tackle this question by combining a large online experiment (N=2,086) with machine learning. We find that when losing is unequivocally due to merit, both men and women exhibit a significant decrease in subsequent tournament entry. However, when the prior tournament is unfair, i.e., a loss i
