Recent SU(3) lattice Monte Carlo data (244 and 164) are analyzed in terms of a simple string model. Good agreement is found. Observed similarities between SU(3) and three-dimensional SU(2) indicate that the string theory is indeed an effective one.

We report on the observation of the bright, long gamma-ray burst, GRB 090926A, by the Gamma-ray Burst Monitor and Large Area Telescope (LAT) instruments on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. Stars ejected from the Galactic Center can be used to place important constraints on the Milky Way potential. We have used Hills stars to constrain models for the Galactic potential, demonstrating that meaningful constraint can be obtained if we have samples of around 50 nearby Hills stars.
Bosonic strings can be discretized in terms of dynamically triangulatedrandom surfaces. We investigate the possibility of introducing fermionicdegrees of freedom on the surface in terms of Ising spins, which in twodimensions correspond to Majorana fermions. Critical properties of themodel are estimated using finite-size scaling methods.
