The Angantyr model for heavy ions in Pythia8

Pythia8 is the only general purpose event generator able to produce complete fully exclusive hadronic final states in collisions involving heavy ions. The model that allows this is called Angantyr and will be discussed in this contribution. The contribution also discusses models based on interactions between strings in an extention of the Lund model that are able to describe some collective effect

FINITE VOLUME FEYNMAN INTEGRALS IN TIME-MOMENTUM REPRESENTATION

Finite-volume corrections to the Lattice Quantum Chromo Dynamics (LQCD) calculation of the hadronic vacuum polarization are here considered to one loop, for the simplified case of one and two propagators of equal mass. Simplifications in the calculations are sought for by comparing computations in momentum space, time-momentum space and position space. The derivation of the finite-volume correctio

Ground-state energy of pionic hydrogen to one loop

We investigate the ground-state energy of the pi(-)p atom (pionic hydrogen) in the framework of QCD + QED. In particular, we evaluate the strong energy-level shift. We perform the calculation at next-to-leading order in the low-energy expansion in the framework of the relevant effective field theory. The result provides a relation between the strong energy shift and the pion-nucleon S-wave scatter

Hard pion chiral perturbation theory for B -> pi and D -> pi formfactors

We use one-loop Heavy Meson Chiral Perturbation Theory (HMChPT) as well as a relativistic formulation to calculate the chiral logarithms m(pi)(2) log (m(pi)(2)/mu(2)) contributing to the formfactors of the semileptonic B -> pi decays at momentum transfer q(2) away from q(max)(2) = (m(B) - m(pi))(2). We give arguments why this chiral behaviour is reliable even in the energy regime with hard or fast

The CP violating NMSSM in light of the newly discovered Higgs boson

The Next to Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) allows a CP violating phase at tree level in the Higgs sector. This CP violation will introduce new mixing between the neutral Higgs states and give rise to changes in the mass spectrum and couplings. We investigate these effects in light of the newly discovered Higgs boson, as its measured properties provides new limits on the Higgs sector

Stress testing the vector-boson-fusion approximation in multijet final states

We consider electroweak Higgs plus three jets production at NLO QCD beyond strict VBF acceptance cuts. We investigate, for the first time, how accurate the VBF approximation is in these regions and within perturbative uncertainties by a detailed comparison of full and approximate calculations. We find that a rapidity gap between the tagging jets guarantees a good approximation, while an invariant

The PDF4LHC Working Group Interim Recommendations

This note provides an interim summary of the current recommendations of thePDF4LHC working group for the use of parton distribution functions (PDFs)and of PDF uncertainties at the LHC, for cross section and cross section uncer-tainty calculations. It also contains a succinct user guideto the computation ofPDFs, uncertainties and correlations using available PDF sets.A companion note (the PDF4LHC W

Simulation of vector boson plus many jet final states at the high luminosity LHC

We present a novel event-generation framework for the efficient simulation of vector boson plus multijet backgrounds at the high-luminosity LHC and at possible future hadron colliders. Message passing interface parallelization of parton-level and particle-level event generation and storage of parton-level event information using the HDF5 data format allow us to obtain leading-order merged Monte Ca

The path to instability in compact multi-planetary systems

The dynamical stability of tightly packed exoplanetary systems remains poorly understood. While a sharp stability boundary exists for a two-planet system, numerical simulations of three-planet systems and higher show that they can experience instability on timescales up to billions of years. Moreover, an exponential trend between the planet orbital separation measured in units of Hill radii and th

How to get access

The basic requirement to use the resources is membership in a compute project. This is handled through the NAISS database - website of the Swedish User and Project Repository (SUPR).The different steps are:1. Create a SUPR accountSUPR offers a number of ways to login. For employees at Lund University, the most convenient is "Login using SWAMID", which simply means using the Lucat-ID.Once inside SU

Uncovering genetic risk factors for Multiple Myeloma: a Ph.D. Interview with Laura Duran Lozano

At the end of October Laura Duran Lozano successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis. Motivated by the idea of helping patients and families impacted by cancer, and as part of the EU CanFaster Program, she has spent the past four years working to identify predisposing genes for a type of bone marrow cancer known as Multiple Myeloma. In this interview, we learn how her collaborative research efforts hav

PHOREST: a web-based tool for comparative analyses of expressed sequence tag data

Comparative analysis of expressed sequence tags is becoming an important tool in molecular ecology for comparing gene expression in organisms grown in certain environments. Additionally, expressed sequence tag database information can be used for the construction of DNA microarrays and for the detection of single nucleotide polymorphisms. For such applications, we present PHOREST, a web-based tool

Transformation and adaptation

Transformation and adaptation Transformation and adaptation: A research programme on the preconditions for governance and human progress Adaptation and transformation have for long been key subjects of study of many sciences ranging from evolutionary biology to business administration. This programme seeks to analyze the dynamic relationship between the environment (broadly defined) on the one han

A spectral study of Te V from MCDHF calculations

State-of-the-art multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations for Te V have been performed and energies, LS-compositions, radiative lifetimes and Lande gJ-factors for 51 odd and even parity states are presented. In addition, predictions on transition rates and oscillator strengths for a multitude of transitions between these states are reported for the first time. To describe the atomic syst

Identifying Cell Reprogramming Roadblocks by Modelling Induced Pluripotency with Boolean Networks and Dynamical Systems

Det finns en väldigt spektakulär typ av cell -- så kallade stamceller -- vars specifika syfte är att omvandlasThe generation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from differentiated cells is a process of great scientific interest due to the medical potential of such cells. This process (called 'reprogramming' of cells) is however notoriously inefficient and still not very well understood. Therefore studies that can help us understand the interactions and mechanisms governing the reprogramming p

Solar Wind Variations Related to Fluctuations of the North Atlantic Oscillation

A study on a possible solar wind interaction with the North AtlanticOscillation (NAO) is performed. Results are presented suggesting arelationship between the NAO index and the electric field strength E ofthe solar wind. A possible scenario for the suggested interaction isthat an electromagnetic disturbance is generated by the solar wind inthe global electric circuit of the ionosphere. This distur
