Compact three-dimensional U(1) gauge theory reexamined

Convincing evidence of a nonvanishing string tension in the continuum limit of compact three-dimensional U(1) gauge theory is presented. It is based on Monte Carlo measurements of Wilson loops on a 323 lattice at =2.0 and 2.2. The observed string tensions at these couplings are consistent with the Polyakov theory. Also, a very clean signal of a string vibrational contribution to the potential is o

Contig assembly and plasmid analysis using DNA barcodes

Two methods of computational analysis of DNA barcodes are presented. A DNA barcode is formed by making GC-rich regions of a DNA molecule fluoresce while AT-rich regions remain dark, thus when stretched using nano-channels and viewed in a microscope, the DNA molecule will resemble a barcode with black and white stripes. Because of point-spread functions and pixellation the resolution will be roughl

Ulysses Dust Detection System V3.1

This data set contains the data from the Ulysses dust detector system (UDDS) from start of mission through the end of mission, 1990-2007. (As the dust detector was turned off after Nov. 30, 2007, this is the last date for which UDDS data is recorded.) Included are the dust impact data, noise data, laboratory calibration data, and location and orientation of the spacecraft and instrument.

Har chefen slutat bry sig? : En kvalitativ studie om enhetschefers möjligheter till brukarperspektiv

This study aims to explore how middle-managers, within public homecare services, perceive that they are affected by organizational structures, such as economic model, room for maneuver and budget responsibility, and organizational cultures, such as goals and personal values, in their effort to work with a client-centered perspective. The study was carried out by five semi-structured interviews wit

Identifying Cell Reprogramming Roadblocks by Modelling Induced Pluripotency with Boolean Networks and Dynamical Systems

Det finns en väldigt spektakulär typ av cell -- så kallade stamceller -- vars specifika syfte är att omvandlasThe generation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from differentiated cells is a process of great scientific interest due to the medical potential of such cells. This process (called 'reprogramming' of cells) is however notoriously inefficient and still not very well understood. Therefore studies that can help us understand the interactions and mechanisms governing the reprogramming p

Monte Carlo generators and the CCFM equation

We discuss three implementations of the CCFM evolution equations in event generator programs. We find that some of them are able to describe observables such as forward jet rates in DIS at HERA, but only if the so-called consistency constraint is removed. We also find that these results are sensitive to the treatment of non-singular terms in the gluon splitting function.

A standard format for Les Houches Event Files

A standard file format is proposed to store process and event information, primarily output from partoti-level event generators for further use by general-purpose ones. The information content is identical with what was already defined by the Les Houches Accord five years ago, but then in terms of Fortran commonblocks. This information is embedded in a minimal XML-style structure, for clarity and

Generating function for web diagrams

We present the description of the exponentiated diagrams in terms of generating function within the universal diagrammatic technique. In particular, we show the exponentiation of the gauge theory amplitudes involving products of an arbitrary number of Wilson lines of arbitrary shapes, which generalizes the concept of web diagrams. The presented method gives a new viewpoint on the web diagrams and

Energy conservation and pomeron loops in high energy evolution

We present a formalism which modifies the Mueller Dipole Model such that it incorporates energy-momentum conservation as well as important colour suppressed effects in the cascade evolution. The formalism is implemented in a Monte Carlo simulation program, and the results are compared to inclusive data from HERA and the Tevatron. We here find a generally very good agreement between our model and t

Chiral limit prediction for ε′/KK at NLO in 1/Nc

We report on a calculation of ε′K/εK at next-to-leading in the 1/Nc expansion and to lowest order in Chiral Perturbation Theory. We discuss the short-distance matching, the scale and scheme dependence as well as the long-distance short-distance matching. We include the two known chiral corrections to our result and discuss further order p4 corrections to it.

Coherence Effects in Deep Inelastic Scattering

We present a framework for deep inelastic scattering, with bound state properties in accordance with a QCD force field acting like a vortex line in a colour superconducting vacuum, which implies some simple coherence effects. Within this scheme one may describe the results of present energies very well, but one obtains an appreciable depletion of gluon radiation in the HERA energy regime.

Theoretical status of ϵ

We briefly overview the historical controversy around Standard Model predictions of ϵ ′/ϵ and clarify the underlying physics. A full update of this important observable is presented, with all known short-and long-distance contributions, including isospin-breaking corrections. The current Standard Model prediction, Re(ϵ ′/ϵ) = (14 ± 5) • 10-4 [1, 2], is in excellent agreement with the experimentall

PISTA: Posterior Ion STAcking

We present a program allowing for the construction of a heavy ion Monte Carlo event using a general purpose proton–proton event generator of the users’ choice to deliver sub–collisions. In this heavy ion event, one or more jets can be added, again using a jet calculation of the users’ choice, allowing for more realistic simulation studies of jets in a heavy ion background.
