Finite volume at two-loops in chiral perturbation theory

We calculate the finite volume corrections to meson masses and decay constants in two and three flavour Chiral Perturbation Theory to two-loop order. The analytical results are compared with the existing result for the pion mass in two-flavour ChPT and the partial results for the other quantities. We present numerical results for all quantities.

Kℓ4 form-factors and π - π scattering

The F and G form-factors of Kℓ4 and the quark condensates are calculated to O(p6) in Chiral Perturbation theory (CHPT). Full formulas are presented as much as possible. A full refit of most of the O(p4) CHPT parameters is done with a discussion of all inputs and underlying assumptions. We discuss the consequences for the vacuum expectation values, decay constants, pseudoscalar masses and π - π sca

Heavy Ion Inital States from DIPSY

A BFKL dipole model, and its event generator DIPSY, developed for pp collisions is extended to initial states of heavy ion collisions. All tuning is made for gamma*p and pp inclusive and minimum bias data, leaving the extension to heavy ions model independent. Eccentricities are calculated and compared to other common inital state models.

The flavouring of a gluon jet

We show that the hard qq̄ production is very sensitive to the details of the parton shower and that our treatment based on the dipole approximation gives significantly larger production than “conventional” parton showers. For our model we find qualitative agreement with experimental data for the Kπ ratio and D-meson production in high-pT jets.

Chiral corrections to vector meson decay constants

We calculate the leading quark mass corrections of order mqlog(mq), mq and m3/2 q to the vector meson decay constants within heavy vector meson chiral perturbation theory. We discuss the issue of electromagnetic gauge invariance and the heavy mass expansion. Reasonably good fits to the observed decay constants are obtained.

Relating the Cabibbo angle to tanβ in a two Higgs-doublet model

In a two Higgs-doublet model with D4 flavor symmetry we establish a relation between tanβ and the Cabibbo angle. Due to a small number of parameters, the quark Yukawa sector of the model is very predictive. The flavor changing neutral currents are small enough to allow for relatively light nonstandard scalars to pass through the flavor constraints.

Ana Clara Lima - alumna from Data Analytics and Business Economics 2024

Meet Ana, a 2024 graduate of the Data Analytics and Business Economics (DABE) master’s programme at LUSEM, has quickly transitioned into her professional career. In this interview, she talks about her role at IKEA, the impact of her studies, and her advice for international graduates starting their careers in Sweden. Hi Ana! An investigation of a method to determine the metallicity distribution function in the thick Disk

Med moderna observationer har vi idag en bra bild av huThe formation and evolution of the Milky Way is a subject under constant debate. Our understanding of the hierarchical structure for- mation of the Galaxy is limited and as it stands now, there are several different competeing models that aim to explain the observations. The initial aim of this project was to study vertical metallicity gradi- ents in the thick disk whilst applying a previously unu

The Meridian S01E05 : Neutrons at ESS during Future Week

It is Future Week at Lund University as we release our fifth podcast episode. This week Nic and Rebecca have invited Joanna Lewis to the mic and chat with her about the European Spallation Source, which is under construction here in Lund . Thereafter they take a closer look at SN1572.

“I should have been put on the bench a lot earlier”

This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. A realistic sense of time, mentors at work, body therapy and a manager who welcomed her back. These were important elements in Ingela Steij Stålbrand’s rehabilitation after a severe case of exhaustion. Now she has organised her life in such a way as to prohibit her job from taking up too much time – and is enjoying ev

The Stability of Observed Multiple-Planet Systems

Trots detta har många av de observerade exoplaneterna väldigt elliptiska (excentrAccording to theories of planet formation, jovian planets are formed on relatively circular, non-inclined, wide orbits. Despite this, many observed jovian planets are found on tight eccentric orbits. This problem could possibly be solved with multiple-planet systems. A planet in a multiple-planet system is not only affected by the host star but also by the other planets. The interactions express t

A Novel Automated Platform for Quantifying the Extent of Skeletal Tumour Involvement in Prostate Cancer Patients Using the Bone Scan Index.

BACKGROUND: There is little consensus on a standard approach to analysing bone scan images. The Bone Scan Index (BSI) is predictive of survival in patients with progressive prostate cancer (PCa), but the popularity of this metric is hampered by the tedium of the manual calculation. OBJECTIVE: Develop a fully automated method of quantifying the BSI and determining the clinical value of automated

Blue straggler stars : Formation channels

I review formation channels for blue stragglers. I consider how they may be produced via collisions between two single main-sequence stars, or via collisions during encounters involving binary stars. Further, I discuss how blue stragglers may be produced via the evolution of isolated binaries. Observations of globular clusters suggest that both mechanisms are contributing.

On the cosmic origin of fluorine

The cosmic origin of fluorine, the ninth element of the periodic table, is still under debate. The reason for this fact is the large difficulties in observing stellar diagnostic lines, which can be used for the determination of the fluorine abundance in stars. Here we discuss some recent work on the chemical evolution of fluorine in the Milky Way and discuss the main contributors to the cosmic bud

MFA Student Interview Series, part VIII: Irene Margrethe Kaltenborn and Karolina Bergman Engman

Irene Margrethe Kaltenborn In KHM1 gallery IreneMargrethe Kaltenborn´s MFA exhibition Choreographies towards loss set the stage for the audience to enter artworks which echoed loss and a void, full of wonderment and poetics. The gallery was dimly lit and kept minimal, leaving room for the viewer to enter the web of interconnectedness between animals, humans and nature.       What has the process b
