Optimization with Potts Neural Networks

The Potts Neural Network approach to non-binary discrete optimizationproblems is described. It applies to problems that can be described asa set of elementary 'multiple choice' options. Instead of the conventionalbinary (Ising) neurons, mean field Potts neurons, having several availablestates, are used to describe the elementary degrees of freedom of suchproblems. The dynamics consists of iteratin

Study of the linked dipole chain model in heavy quark production at the Tevatron

We present calculations of charm and beauty production at Tevatron within the framework of k(T)-factorization, using the unintegrated gluon distributions as obtained from the Linked Dipole Chain model. The analysis covers transverse momentum and rapidity distributions and the azimuthal correlations between b and (b) over bar quarks (or rather muons from their decay) which are powerful tests for th

Status of the PYTHIA7 project

I will describe the current status of the PYTHIA7 project to completely rewrite the 'Lund family' of event generators in C++. The PYTHIA7 program is a general platform for implementing event generator models and is not limited to the standard Lund programs (PYTHIA, JETSET, ARIADNE,...). Also the future C++ version of the HERWIG program will be implemented in the PYTHIA7 framework. The underlying f

The BK kaon parameter in the 1/Nc expansion

We present work going on calculating the kaon BK parameter in the 1/Nc expansion. The goal of this work is to analyze analytically in the presence of chiral corrections this phenomenologically very important parameter. We present the method used and preliminary results for the chiral limit value for which we get the invariant BKchi=0.29 +- 0.15. We also give some analytical indications of why the

Spacetime information as a guiding principle for color reconnection in herwig 7

A new model of color reconnection in the Monte Carlo generator Herwig 7 is presented. It is based on the minimization of a boost-invariant distance of the parton system, where all partons have momentum as well as spacetime position assigned. We test the influence of both types of variables, namely the rapidity span and transverse distance, on the actual need to reconnect the system to better descr

Effective field theories in QCD

These are the proceedings of the workshop on ``Effective Field Theories of QCD'' held at the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef of the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft, Bad Honnef, Germany from November 26 to 30, 2001. The workshop concentrated on Chiral Perturbation Theory in its various settings, its relations with lattice QCD and dispersion theory and the use of effective field theories in systems wit

Central exclusive scalar luminosities from the linked dipole chain model gluon densities

We investigate the implication of uncertainties in the unintegrated gluon distribution for the predictions for central exclusive production of scalars at hadron colliders. We use parameterizations of the k(perpendicular to)-unintegrated gluon density obtained from the Linked Dipole Chain model, applying different options for the treatment of non-leading terms. We find that the luminosity function

Forward jets and multiple interactions

HERA provides a unique possibility to investigate the dependence of multiple interactions on transverse interaction sizes through variation of the photon virtuality Q2. In order to observe effects of multiple interactions at Q2 substantially different from zero we have to look into regions of phase space where resolved processes dominate over direct ones. The forward jet production at small values

Chiral Expansion of Nucleon PDF at x similar to m(pi)/M-N

Based on the chiral perturbation theory, we investigate the low-energy dynamics of nucleon parton distributions. We show that in different regions of the momentum fraction x the chiral expansion is significantly different. For nucleon parton distributions these regions are characterized by x similar to 1, x similar to m(pi)/M-N and x similar to (m(pi)/M-N)(2). We derive extended counting rules for

Onset of color decoherence for soft gluon radiation in a medium

We report on recent studies of the phenomenon of color decoherence in jets in QCD media. The effect is most clearly observed in the radiation pattern of a quark-antiquark antenna, created in the same quantum state, traversing a dense color deconfined plasma. Multiple scattering with the medium color charges gradually destroys the coherence of the antenna. In the limit of opaque media, this ultimat

Two-loop sunset integrals at finite volume

We show how to compute the two-loop sunset integrals at finite volume, for non-degenerate masses and non-zero momentum. We present results for all integrals that appear in the Chiral Perturbation Theory (chi PT) calculation of the pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants at next-to-next-to-leading order, including the case of Partially Quenched chi PT. We also provide numerical implementation

Jets in QCD media: From color coherence to decoherence

We investigate soft gluon radiation off a quark-antiquark antenna in both color singlet and octet configurations traversing a dense medium. We demonstrate that, in both cases, multiple scatterings lead to a gradual decoherence of the antenna radiation as a function of the medium density. In particular, in the limit of a completely opaque medium, total decoherence is obtained, i.e., the quark and t

The relation between the Good-Walker and triple-regge formalisms for diffractive excitation

In this Letter we analyze the relation between the triple-pomeron and Good-Walker formalism's for diffractive excitation in DIS and hadronic collisions. In both approaches gap events are interpreted as the shadow of absorption into inelastic channels. We here argue that the two formalisms are just different views of the same phenomenon. We first demonstrate how this relation works in a simple toy

Dual-color decompositions at one-loop level in Yang-Mills theory

In this work we extend two dual color decompositions of Yang-Mills amplitude to one-loop level. Starting from double-copy expression we translate the Yang-Mills integrand into the dual Del Duca-Dixon-Maltoni formulation and subsequently to the dual color-ordered formula. The dual trace factors are obtained after simultaneously solving the one-loop Kleiss-Kuijf relations, the reflection relation, a

Chiral symmetry and charmonium decays to two pseudoscalars

We apply hard pion Chiral Perturbation Theory to charmonium decays to pi pi, KK and eta eta. We first discuss why we expect to be able to provide results for the chiral logarithms in chi(c0) and chi(c2) decays to two pseudoscalars while for the decays from J/psi, psi(nS) and chi(c1) no simple prediction is possible. The leading chiral logarithm turns out to be absent for chi(c0), chi(c2) -> PP. Th

Different faces of confinement

In this review, we provide a short outlook of some of the current most popular pictures and promising approaches to non-perturbative physics and confinement in gauge theories. A qualitative and by no means exhaustive discussion presented here covers such key topics as the phases of QCD matter, the order parameters for confinement, the central vortex and monopole pictures of the QCD vacuum structur

Inclusion of the 3P0 model in PYTHIA 8

The spin effects in the hadronization process have been included for the first time in the PYTHIA 8 event generator. The spin effects are limited to the production of pseudo-scalar mesons and are obtained from the propagation of the quark polarization along the fragmentation chain according to the rules of the so-called 3P0 model. The interface between PYTHIA 8 and the package of the 3P0 model is

Transverse momentum as a measure of color topologies

Several distinct color flow topologies are possible in multiparton configurations. A method is proposed to find the correct topology, based on a minimization of the total transverse momentum of produced particles. This method is studied for three-jet [Formula presented] and four-jet [Formula presented] events. It is shown how the basic picture is smeared, especially by parton-shower activity. The
