Barium stars revisited

The barium overabundances observed at the surface of barium stars originate from accretion long ago from the wind of a companion AGB star. However, this scenario cannot explain their high eccentricities and short orbital periods that have remained a mystery for decades. We investigate how kicks imparted to the white-dwarf at its birth or the presence of a circumbinary disk can solve this problem.

Application of irradiance transport equation in aspheric surface testing

A method for aspheric surface testing (AST) is presented in this paper. The method fundamentally draws on solving the irradiance transport equation (ITE). It is shown by simulation that the accuracy of ITE solution depends on proper selection of defocus distance and also demonstrate that the best defocus distance depends on peak to valley and spatial extend of phase distribution. Microscopic collectivity : The ridge and strangeness enhancement from string–string interactions

We present the microscopic model for collective effects, built on string–string interactions (string shoving and rope hadronization), recently implemented in the PYTHIA8 and DIPSY event generators. Rope hadronization is shown to give a good description of strangeness enhancement across pp, pA and AA collision systems, while string shoving qualitatively describes the ridge observed in pp collisions

The order p 8 mesonic chiral Lagrangian

We derive the chiral Lagrangian at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (NNNLO) for a general number Nf of light quark flavours as well as for Nf = 2, 3. We enumerate the contact terms separately. We also discuss the cases where some of the external fields are not included. An example of a choice of Lagrangian is given in the supplementary material.

Les Houches 2013: Physics at TeV Colliders: Standard Model Working Group Report

This Report summarizes the proceedings of the 2013 Les Houches workshop on Physics at TeV Colliders. Session 1 dealt primarily with (1) the techniques for calculating standard model multi-leg NLO and NNLO QCD and NLO EW cross sections and (2) the comparison of those cross sections with LHC data from Run 1, and projections for future measurements in Run 2.

Fluctuations and Fermi-Dirac Correlations in e(+)e(-)-annihilation

In this talk I first present a short review of fluctuations in e (+) e(-) -annihilations. I then describe some new results on FD correlations. Experimental analyses of pp and Lambda Lambda correlations indicate a very small production radius. This result relies very strongly on comparisons with MC simulations. A study of the approximations and uncertainties in these simulations implies that it is

Effects of energy conservation and saturation in Mueller's dipole cascade formulation

The effects of energy conservation and saturation are studied in the coordinate space dipole formulation for QCD cascades. Preliminary results for dipole-dipole and dipole-nucleus scattering are presented. Very large effects are obtained from energy conservation, corresponding to a factor similar to 10 in the cross section and similar to 3 in lambda(eff). Some results on the gluon fusion process g

ColoRea: Colour Rearrangement for Dipole Showers

In this talk I presented an algorithm to correct for wrong assignment of colour dipoles in the cascade of dipole showers. It is explained how simple matrix elements can be used to reorder the colour connections for the evolution of the following cascade. I discuss the possibility to modify the splitting kernels to include an improved behaviour. Further a numerical study is presented that indicates

Spacetime colour reconnection in Herwig 7

We present a model for generating spacetime coordinates in the Monte Carlo event generator Herwig 7, and perform colour reconnection by minimizing a boost-invariant distance measure of the system. We compare the model to a series of soft physics observables. We find reasonable agreement with the data, suggesting that pp-collider colour reconnection may be able to be applied in larger systems.

Three-particle Bose-Einstein correlations - a sensitive probe for Lund string fragmentation

I discuss how a difference in the correlation length longitudinally and transversely with respect to the jet axis in e+e- annihilation, arises naturally in a model for Bose-Einstein correlations based on the Lund string picture. This difference is, due to the longitudinal stretching of the field, more apparent in genuine three-particle correlations. They can therefore be used as a sensitive probe

Progress in K → ππ decays

Recent work by J. Prades and myself on K → ππ is described. The first part describes our method to connect in a systematic fashion the short-distance evolution with long-distance matrix-element calculations taking the scheme dependence of the short-distance evolution into account correctly. In the second part I show the results we obtain for the ΔI = 1/2 rule in the chiral limit.

Low energy constants from K(l4) form-factors

We have calculated the form-factors F and G in K → ππlν decays (K(l4)) to two-loop order in Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). Combining this together with earlier two-loop calculations an updated set of values for the L(i)/(r), the ChPT constants at O(p4), is obtained. We discuss the uncertainties in the determination and the changes compared to previous estimates. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.

bbˉ -fragmentation and Bpπ correlations

We show that experimental data are in very good agreement with predictions from the string fragmentation model by Bowler and Morris. We present a physical interpretation and discuss the relation to results obtained from Perturbative QCD and Local Hadron Parton Duality (LPHD). We also present implications for Bp correlations and the possibility to use these as a tag to study CP violation in B decay

CEDAR

The CEDAR collaboration is developing a set of tools for tuning and validating theoretical models by comparing the predictions of event generators with data from particle physics experiments. CEDAR is also constructing resources to provide access to well defined versions of high-energy physics software and support for software developers. Here we give an overview of the CEDAR project and its statu

Compact three-dimensional U(1) gauge theory reexamined

Convincing evidence of a nonvanishing string tension in the continuum limit of compact three-dimensional U(1) gauge theory is presented. It is based on Monte Carlo measurements of Wilson loops on a 323 lattice at =2.0 and 2.2. The observed string tensions at these couplings are consistent with the Polyakov theory. Also, a very clean signal of a string vibrational contribution to the potential is o
