Investigating Mono- and Quadrupole Gravitational Light Deflection by Jupiter

Gravitational light deflection in the Solar System can be detected by high precision astrometric measurements. We discuss the parametrized post-Newtonian framework and the comparison of metric theories of gravity. At the precision of a few micro-arcseconds, Gaia data will permit tests of the PPN parameters beta and gamma and to distinguish monopole and quadrupole gravitational light deflection. Ac

Direct observation of string vibrations in three-dimensional compact QED

Three-dimensional compact U(1) is studied on a 16×32×16 lattice with emphasis on roughening around the crossover region. Configurations including two static charges are generated using the dual formulation of the theory. In this way the flux patterns between the charges are mapped out. Very convincing evidence for roughening is found. In particular we show that the average transverse spread of the

Proton structure and hollowness from Lévy imaging of pp elastic scattering

The recently developed Lévy imaging method enables to extract an important physics information on hadron structure at high energies and ultra-low momentum transfers directly from elastic scattering data. In this work, we employ such a model-independent method to probe the internal structure of the proton and quantify its inelasticity profile in the impact parameter space emerging in proton-proton

Hard Diffraction With Dynamic Gap Survival

We present a new framework for the modelling of hard diffraction in pp and (Formula presented.) collisions. It starts from the the approach pioneered by Ingelman and Schlein, wherein the single diffractive cross section is factorized into a Pomeron flux and a Pomeron PDF. To this it adds a dynamically calculated rapidity gap survival factor, derived from the modelling of multiparton interactions.

Syftet med uppsatsen är därför att undersöka hur beställarens påkallanWhen it comes to contract work in the construction sector it is common that the client points out faults that he wants the contractor to rectify. For a party to be able to enforce a sanction in the event of an alleged breach of contract, the branch regulation AB 04 prescribes, just as according to general property law, that a complaint is made. The purpose of the thesis is therefore to investigate

Chaos in Stellar Dynamics - Outcomes of Binary-Single interactions in Globular Clusters

Gravitational encounters between a single star and a binary system can frequently occur in the cores of dense stellar systems like globular clusters. These three-body scattering encounters can lead to a variety of outcomes since the energy of the binary components can be exchanged with the interacting single star. The outcome of these interactions strongly depend on the initial conditions of the i

The survival of stellar clusters

In this project I have studied the effect of gas expulsion on the evolution of stellar clusters. What effect the rate of gas removal and the quantity of gas removed has on the evolution on the cluster will be studied through computer simulations with the NBody6 code and compared to analytical predictions. The rate at which gas is removed has a very significant impact on how the cluster evolves

The Instant Need to Shop

Abstract Title: The Instant need to shop - A qualitative study mapping out retailers perception of instant shopping Course: SMMM40, Service Management: Master’s (Two Years) Thesis (Spring 2022) Authors: Louise Borg & Siri Lindgren Supervisor: Devrim Umut Aslan Date of submission: 2022-05-17 Key words: Instant shopping, Instagram, technology adaptation, retailer-consumer encounter, digital

Refining the orbits of the planets in HD 207832

The star, HD 207832, has two Jupiter-like planets on orbits with poorly constrained eccentricities. The eccentricities are 0.27 +0.22 -0.10 and 0.13$^{+0.18}_{-0.05}$ respectively. Notably, the two sigma error allows eccentricities up to 0.71 for one of the planets. Due to the large error bars, one aim of this project is to refine them. This is done by simulating the system for different initial e

Cosmological implications of a QCD-like composite Higgs model

Some of the shortcomings of the Standard Model of particle physics are the 'unnatural' value of the mass of the Higgs boson and the fact that the model cannot account for the process of baryogenesis - a mechanism which generates the observed asymmetry between matter and anti-matter in the Universe. The former is related to the fundamental scalar nature of the Higgs boson, connected to quad

Transverse Momentum Dependent Soft Function in SCET to NNLO

We review the factorization theorem for the production of a heavy color-neutral final state with a transverse momentum much smaller than its invariant mass in the framework of soft collinear effective field theory (SCET). This phase space region is plagued by large logarithms of widely separated scales, including large logarithms of rapidity ratios, that need to be resummed for sensible results. I

White dwarfs and Galactic dark matter

We discuss the recent discovery by Oppenheimer et al. of old, cool white dwarf stars, which may be the first direct detection of Galactic halo dark matter. We argue here that the contribution of more mundane white dwarfs of the stellar halo and thick disc would contribute sufficiently to explain the new high velocity white dwarfs without invoking putative white dwarfs of the dark halo. This by no
