Nursing Studentsʼ Recounts of Actions and Interactions in Social Relations in Danish Homecare Settings: Perspectives of Immigrant Nursing Students

Encounters between patients in homecare and nursing students are cultural events where students, in principle, are in unknown territory. This study illuminated how nursing students recount (inter)actions in social relations in Danish homecare settings, illustrated by students with a self-appointed immigrant background. The study consisted of semi-structured interviews with eight nursing students.

EXPOSURE OF VOLUNTEERS IN MEDICAL RESEARCH - JUSTIFIED AND OPTIMISED?

Volunteers participating in medical research must be adequately protected. A volunteer can be a person undergoing treatment for an illness (a patient) or a healthy person. The radiological imaging and therapy procedures used could be routine or project-specific with different purposes. This contribution aims to explore the features and conditions of this planned exposure situation and to address s

eVisits to primary care and subsequent health care contacts : a register-based study

Background: Evidence concerning health care use related to virtual visits is conflicting. More research has been called for regarding the effectiveness of text-based virtual visits (eVisits). Therefore, we investigated patient characteristics, diagnoses, and subsequent health care contacts after eVisits to primary care. Methods: We conducted a register-based cohort study of eVisits to an all-virtu

Real-World Treatment Patterns and Survival Outcomes for Patients with Non-Metastatic Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer in Sweden : A Nationwide Registry Analysis from the I-O Optimise Initiative

Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, with ~40–50% of patients diagnosed with non-metastatic disease (stages IA–IIIC). The treatment landscape is evolving rapidly as immunotherapies and targeted therapy are introduced in the non-metastatic setting, creating a need to assess patient outcomes prior to their introduction. This real-world study usin

Unanswered questions in prostate cancer — findings of an international multi-stakeholder consensus by the PIONEER consortium

PIONEER is a European network of excellence for big data in prostate cancer consisting of 37 private and public stakeholders from 9 countries across Europe. Many progresses have been done in prostate cancer management, but unanswered questions in the field still exist, and big data could help to answer these questions. The PIONEER consortium conducted a two-round modified Delphi survey aiming at b

Association between vitamin D receptor gene polymorphisms, falls, balance and muscle power : results from two independent studies (APOSS and OPUS)

SUMMARY: Fall prevention is a key strategy for reducing osteoporotic fractures. We investigated the association between vitamin D receptor (VDR) polymorphisms and reported falls in postmenopausal women. Bsm1 polymorphisms were associated with falls, balance and muscle power measurements. These results may explain some of the excess fracture risk associated with VDR in some studies.INTRODUCTION: Fa

Yippee like 4 (Ypel4) is essential for normal mouse red blood cell membrane integrity

The YPEL family genes are highly conserved across a diverse range of eukaryotic organisms and thus potentially involved in essential cellular processes. Ypel4, one of five YPEL family gene orthologs in mouse and human, is highly and specifically expressed in late terminal erythroid differentiation (TED). In this study, we investigated the role of Ypel4 in murine erythropoiesis, providing for the f

Linguistic realism and issues in quantum philosophy

Language has to be conceived wholistically. Fragmented views, provoked by attempts at describing language, turn out essentially distortive on the general phenomenon which language is, with species like genetic language, programming language, formal language, observation language, inner cerebral language, external communication language. At the center of this wholism is a linguistic complementarity

Levi on Money Pumps and Diachronic Dutch-Book Arguments

My focus is on pragmatic arguments for various ‘rationality constraints’ on a decision maker’s state of mind: on his beliefs or preferences. An argument of this kind purports to show that a violator of a given constraint can be exposed to a decision problem in which he will act to his guaranteed disadvantage. Dramatically put, he can be exploited by a clever bookie who doesn’t know more than the a
