Prediction of adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes associated with pre-eclampsia and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy : a systematic review and meta-analysis

Background: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. If women at high risk for developing complications could be identified early, level of care could be triaged, limited resources could be correctly allocated and targeted interventions to prevent complications could be implemented. Methods: We updated a systematic review and meta-a

Identification and Prioritization of Factors for an Adequate Housing Environment : Involvement of Community-Dwelling Older Adults in the Early Stage of a Housing Development Process

Ageing societies are facing major housing challenges. Understanding and addressing older adults' diverse housing needs and preferences are crucial. Having access to suitable and sustainable housing options can improve social cohesion, independence, health, and well-being. Participatory processes in housing development can enhance inclusion and democratic participation. This study uses Ramlösa Port

Assessment and monitoring of reliability and robustness of offshore wind energy converters

The preseni paper provides an overview of existing approaches for design and assessment of offshore structures and on this basis proposes a framework for the risk based assessment and monitoring of the performance of offshore wind energy converters in operation. In recognition of the fact that there are presently no established best practices for the assessment and monitoring of offshore wind ener

Older Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders in Sweden : A Register Study of Diagnoses, Psychiatric Care Utilization and Psychotropic Medication of 601 Individuals

In a Swedish sample of persons eligible for disability services and aged 55 years or older in 2012, persons (n = 601) with autism spectrum disorder diagnoses registered in specialist care were identified. Register data concerning diagnoses of other psychiatric disorders, psychiatric care, and psychiatric medication were reviewed. More than 60% had been in contact with psychiatric care. The majorit

Boredom in Meetings

For managers, meetings may be an arena “where the action is”: situations to display competence and moral character. However, others may feel less involved, and meetings may be experienced as nonsense, as meaningless and worthless. A recurring theme in various studies is complaints about meetings, particularly regarding their frequency, their emptiness, and the forced attendance, taking time from w

Symptom Relief and Palliative Care during the Last Week of Life among Patients with Heart Failure : A National Register Study

Background: Heart failure is a disease with high morbidity, mortality, and physical and psychological burden. More knowledge about the care provided for patients with heart failure close to death is needed. Objective: The aim was to describe key aspects of palliative care during the last week of life in patients with heart failure, as reported by healthcare professionals. Design: This is a nationa

Patents, Morality and Biomedical Innovation in Europe : Historical overview, current debates on stem cells, gene editing and AI, and de lege ferenda reflections

This paper discusses the existence and scope of the morality exception from patentability, in Article 53 (a) of the European Patent Convention. The analysis will look into the history of the provision, debate its rational and interpretation by reference to three examples of technology areas: stem cell research; gene editing and AI/big data analytics.Bioscience innovation has always generated heate

Utility of G protein-coupled receptor 35 expression for predicting outcome in colon cancer

The utility of mRNA and protein determinations of G protein-coupled receptor 35, that is, GPR35a (GPR35 V1) and GPR35b (GPR35 V2/3), as indicators of outcome for colon cancer patients after curative surgery was investigated. Expression levels of V1 and V2/3 GPR35, carcinoembryonic antigen and CXCL17 mRNAs were assessed in primary tumours and regional lymph nodes of 121 colon cancer patients (stage

Numerical Analysis of the Anisotropic Stiffness of a Thin Aluminium Foil in Multiple Material directions Based on Experiments

Numerical analysis have been performed on tensile test experiment data to evaluated the performances of a 9 microns thick aluminium foil. The identification of the anisotropic material properties is based on tensile tests performed in 11 di↵erent angles from 0 to 90 from the rolling direction. Characteristics of two-color holographic recording in lithium niobate doped with thulium

We report ultraviolet-induced transient and stable absorption and two-color holographic recording at 514, 633, and 830 nm in thulium doped stoichiometric LiNbO 3 crystal. The gating light at 355 nm increased the diffraction efficiency and sensitivity. We found the optimum gating-recording intensity ratio for maximum diffraction efficiency and weak nonvolatile holographic storage with gating.

Resilient Food Supply Chains in the Face of the Russo–Ukrainian War: Harnessing the Power of the Internet of Things

The current war in Ukraine has severely disrupted global food supply chains due to the significant decline in the production of grain commodities, of which Ukraine and Russia are major global suppliers. This creates problems in today’s globalised food systems. In particular, a number of countries are heavily dependent on food imports from Ukraine and/or Russia, particularly some developing nations

Production of very cold, highly charged ions by synchrotron radiation: Comparisons of the “scalpel” and “hammer” methods

Measurements of kinetic energies of highy charged argon ions produced by inner-shell photoionization and by ion-beam impact have been made using time-of-flight techniques. High-charge-state recoil ions produced by beams of ∼ 0.5−1 MeV/u Cl5+ are found to have energies one to two orders of magnitude higher than ions of the same charge produced by vacancy cascades following inner-shell photoionizatiMeasurements of kinetic energies of highy charged argon ions produced by inner-shell photoionization and by ion-beam impact have been made using time-of-flight techniques. Resources Shifting Values : Online and Offline Resources in Swedish Civil Society

Resources have always been at the heart of civil society theorizing. While many earlier theories have focused on resources in the forms of money, people, ideas, or personnel, recent debates highlight the Internet and social media as new environments for resource mobilization. This chapter contributes to current research by comparing the human, economic, and political resources accumulated both off

360-Degree Films for Cognitive Inclusion at Workplaces

Persons with stress-related disorders, mental disorders and neuropsychiatric disabilities are in particular vulnerable to cognitive challenges at the workplace. The barriers faced by persons with communicative, social and cognitive disabilities are most often invisible to persons in the environment. The objective of the study presented in this paper is to develop and test a tool that increases awa

Patterns of Persistence : Intergenerational mobility and Sweden's social structure 1865-2015

In all times, societies have known social hierarchies and boundaries between individuals and groups with distinct social characteristics. The extent to which such hierarchies and boundaries are consequential for life outcomes and persist over time differs between societies. These changes over generations in the social structure, and the social, economical, and institutional developments that shape

Symptoms, problems and care needs among patients newly diagnosed with oesophageal and gastric cancer. Implications for early palliative care.

Background: Patients with oesophageal and gastric cancer face a poor prognosis and multiple symptoms and problems that negatively affect their quality of life. In view of the prognosis and extensive illness burden, an early palliative care approach is of importance.Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to describe and compare symptoms, problems and care needs in relation to the initial treatment

Partnering for Transformation - exploring the concept of Transformative Academic Institutions

Academic institutions are frequently called on to evidence the impact they have on their regional ecosystems whilst at the same time respond to the expectations that they produce globally significant research. This often results in tensions because of the different drivers and rewards of these dual ambitions. This exploratory research project describes how international academic partners across fiv
