These notes are an expanded version of my talk at the ICRA 2018 in Prague, Czech Republic; they are based on joint work with Tobias Dyckerhoff and Tashi Walde. In them we relate Iyama's higher Auslander algebras of type A to Eilenberg-Mac Lane spaces in algebraic topology and to higher-dimensional versions of the Waldhausen S-construction from algebraic K-theory.

Involving professionals in research can ensure the acquisition of knowledge, that is relevant, applicable and sustainable. Professionals are people who work in health systems, or organisations that contribute to health systems, such as practitioners, managers or other decision-makers. They have context-specific knowledge which the researchers often lack. Therefore, when they are involved in resear

Emissions from biomass burning are highly variable and depend on combustion conditions as well as fuel properties. Simultaneous emissions from pyrolysis, smouldering, and combustion of the biomass material(s) burning leads to uncertainties in how these processes contribute to emissions of individual or groups of compounds as well as to total particle emissions. These uncertainties are difficult to

Reconstruction of indoor surfaces with limited texture information or with repeated textures, a situation common in walls and ceilings, may be difficult with a monocular Structure from Motion system. We propose a Semantic Room Wireframe Detection task to predict a Semantic Wireframe from a single perspective image. Such predictions may be used with shape priors to estimate the Room Layout and aid

Unesterified radioactive cholesterol, both bound to serum lipoproteins and dispersed in ethanol-saline, was injected into bile fistula and intact rats. Due to phagocytosis, mainly by the liver macrophages, intravenously injected cholesterol in ethanol-saline disappears from the bloodstream significantly faster than lipoprotein-bound cholesterol. Soon after the initial phagocytosis, the particulate

We use observations of M3 to constrain thermohaline mixing. This is done by matching [C/Fe] and [N/Fe] along the RGB of M3. We find our models can explain observations if it is assumed there is a spread of ∼ 0.3 - 0.4 dex in [C/Fe] in the stars in M3 from their birth. We reproduce the full spread in [C/Fe] at the tip of the RGB. Thermohaline mixing can produce a significant change in [N/Fe] as a f

This project addresses the challenge of designing for permanence within a heavily gentrified and tourist-driven environment. It responds directly to local housing needs while integrating small-scale tourism and establishing clear spatial boundaries to safeguard local biodiversity. While housing constitutes the central focus of the proposal, the project also argues that permanence cannot be secur

This study examines how part-time work is discursively constructed and contested in the German political debate following the CDU's proposal to limit the right to part-time work in January 2026. Situated in the context of demographic change and labour shortages, the proposal frames part-time employment primarily as an economic burden – a framing that raises questions about how economic product

In this episode, Stella Ebbersmeyer speaks to Dr. Zhen Sun from the World Maritime University about the regulation of Arctic shipping in the context of climate change. They address topics such as the regulation of black carbon emissions, the Heavy Fuel Oil ban at the International Maritime Organization and non-state actors in international law-making.

In this episode we speak to Associate Professor Jeff Colgan about the existential politics of climate change, as well as the challenges related to the revaluation of climate-forcing and climate-vulnerable assets. The interview draws on the recent article ‘Asset Revaluation and the Existential Politics of Climate Change’, which Jeff Colgan co-authored with Jessica Green and Thomas Hale.

Purpose: To study the incidence and subtype of breast cancer in relation to incident and prevalent statin use in a contemporary Swedish prospective cohort, The Karolinska Mammography Project for Risk Prediction of Breast Cancer, KARMA. Methods: A total of 35,315 postmenopausal women attending mammography and included in the KARMA cohort (Jan 2011–March 2013) with data on statin use and potential c

International research collaboration is essential for tackling global challenges, many of which disproportionately affect low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), while scientific capital remains concentrated in high-income countries (HICs). Drawing on CRediT contributorship data from 2018–2023 and past and present author affiliations, we examine how labor is divided in teams between researchers

Focusing on how environmental stressors intersect with socioeconomic vulnerabilities to shape migratory patterns, this study examines the relationship between climate change and youth (im)mobility in Ethiopia. It examines how climate shocks—including droughts, unpredictable rainfall, and land degradation—heighten household insecurity and shape young people’s migration decisions. Using mixed-method

African elephants are keystone species facing severe declines due to the ivory trade and habitat loss. To investigate the genomic consequences, we analyze 232 high-coverage genomes from 17 African countries in the first continent-wide genomic analysis treating savanna (Loxodonta africana) and forest (L. cyclotis) elephants as distinct species. We find a deep divergence between species, with forest

This study examines the defense modernization efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Vision 2030, together with the institutional architecture of GAMI and SAMI, sets an ambitious target of 50% defense localization by 2030. While official reports assert steady progress in upstream industrial capabilities, this study asks whether these efforts have been as successful as claimed. The research
