Optimization of portable parallel signal processing applications by design space exploration of dataflow programs

Abstract in UndeterminedThis paper describes a methodology for the optimization of portable parallel signal processing applications specified by dataflow programs. The use of dataflow as a programming model for signal processing applications targeting parallel platforms provides an important advantage versus the traditional sequential programming paradigm: the portability of parallelism. The paper

On the Asymptotics of Solving the LWE Problem Using Coded-BKW with Sieving

The Learning with Errors problem (LWE) has become a central topic in recent cryptographic research. In this paper, we present a new solving algorithm combining important ideas from previous work on improving the Blum-Kalai-Wasserman (BKW) algorithm and ideas from sieving in lattices. The new algorithm is analyzed and demonstrates an improved asymptotic performance. For the Regev parameters $q=n^2$

Quantum Automating TC0-Frege Is LWE-Hard

We prove the first hardness results against efficient proof search by quantum algorithms. We show that under Learning with Errors (LWE), the standard lattice-based cryptographic assumption, no quantum algorithm can weakly automate TC0-Frege. This extends the line of results of Krajíček and Pudlák (Information and Computation, 1998), Bonet, Pitassi, and Raz (FOCS, 1997), and Bonet, Domingo, Gavaldà

Theoretical Studies of Cytochrome P450

I det aktiva sätet har dThe cytochromes P450 are a large enzyme family that is found in all living organisms and takes part in both endogenous and exogenous metabolism. They are primarily mono-oxygenases and perform a wide range of reactions. In contrast to many other enzymes, they have been optimised to react with a wide range of substrates instead of having high reaction rates. In the active site, these enzymes have a

Some Cryptanalytic and Coding-Theoretic Applications of a Soft Stern Algorithm

Using the class of information set decoding algorithms is the best known way of decoding general codes, i.e. codes that admit no special structure, in the Hamming metric. The Stern algorithm is the origin of the most efficient algorithms in this class. We consider the same decoding problem but for a channel with soft information. We give a version of the Stern algorithm for a channel with soft inf

A novel in-situ method to determine the respiratory tract deposition of carbonaceous particles reveals dangers of public commuting in highly polluted megacity

Background: Exposure to air pollutants is one of the major environmental health risks faced by populations globally. Information about inhaled particle deposition dose is crucial in establishing the dose–response function for assessing health-related effects due to exposure to air pollution. Objective: This study aims to quantify the respiratory tract deposition (RTD) of equivalent black carbon (B

Prototyping Practices in Software Startups : Initial Case Study Results

Software startups use prototyping to develop and test business ideas and to validate market viability. While prototyping is emphasized in agile methods, there is little research on how startups can best utilise scarce resources to effectively use prototypes in their dynamic business context. We performed a case study of four startups and investigated how startups currently use prototyping to elici

Improved iterative decoding of QC-MDPC codes in the McEliece public key cryptosystem

We improve iterative decoding of the moderate density parity-check codes, recently suggested as code candidates in the McEliece public key cryptosystem. In case of bit-flipping (BF) decoder failure, the code parity-check matrix is extended by adding auxiliary variable nodes based on reliability information from the BF decoder. Then iterative decoding is applied to the extended parity-check matrix.

Think accessible – five tips to get started

On this page, you'll find practical advice on how to make meetings and teaching more accessible. 1. Prioritize breaksAnything lasting more than an hour must include a break! Never compromise on this – don't ask students or participants if they prefer to skip the break and finish earlier. Clearly state from the start when the break will happen.2. Use a microphoneAlways use a microphone! All larger

CoxSE : Exploring the potential of self-explaining neural networks with Cox proportional hazards model for survival analysis

The Cox Proportional Hazards (CPH) model has long been the preferred survival model for its explainability. However, to increase its predictive power beyond its linear log-risk, it was extended to utilize deep neural networks, sacrificing its explainability. In this work, we explore the potential of self-explaining neural networks (SENN) for survival analysis. We propose a new locally explainable

Fast Authentication in a Collaborative Wireless Access Network

In this paper, we propose a novel inter-domain fast-authentication scheme based on a concept of "trust clouds". A trust cloud is formed among neighbouring access points based on a relationship among the owners of the access points. Fast-authentication for inter-domain sites is achieved through cooperation among the trust cloud members. The approach is distributed without a central authentication s

DynSus : Dynamic sustainability assessment in groundwater remediation practice

Decision-making processes for clean-up of contaminated sites are often highly complex and inherently uncertain. It depends not only on hydrological and biogeochemical site variability, but also on the associated health, environmental, economic, and social impacts of taking, or not taking, action. These variabilities suggest that a dynamic framework is required for promoting sustainable remediation

Adaptive Clay Formations

Rapid Clay Formations (RCF) is an ongoing research project investigating robotic aggregation of soft clay elements. This thesis presents our research into RCF construction on an architectural scale. It outlines our development of a fabrication process suitable for the construction of tall and slender structures made out of clay. This fabrication process is evaluated through a series of prototypes

August 20th 2020

From the Management Dear all, welcome back to a new semester! Hope everyone has been able to have a good summer holiday, with the possibility of recovery after a pretty tough spring. We will have some students back on campus, and the process towards the new CEC organisation from 2021 continues as planned. In addition to that we are looking forward to a semester with lots of interesting activities.

The structure of Rhodothermus marinus Cel12A, a highly thermostable family 12 endoglucanase, at 1.8 Å resolution

Cellulose is one of the most abundant polysaccharides in nature and microorganisms have developed a comprehensive system for enzymatic breakdown of this ubiquitous carbon source, a subject of much interest in the biotechnology industry. Rhodothermus marinus produces a hyperthermostable cellulase, with a temperature optimum of more than 90 °C, the structure of which is presented here to 1.8 Å resol
