Ecosystem services from a tropical forest landscape in Southeast Asia : Assessing impacts of land-use and land-cover changes

Tropical forests are essential for global biodiversity, carbon storage, and hydrological regulation, yet accelerating land-use and land-cover change are rapidly eroding these functions across Southeast Asia. In Cambodia, forest conversion surrounding protected landscapes has intensified over recent decades, but its long-term ecological and economic consequences remain poorly quantified because few

ACS Nano Journal Cover

Depiction of sinusoidal displacement in nanocrystal superlattices through a minimum of geometric shapes and contrasting colors. This cover pays homage to the Bauhaus movement, celebrating human-made craftsmanship, clarity, and accessibility in scientific design, and remains faithful to its fundamental principle: less is more.

Links between life history traits and neuroanatomy of wild Canidae using cranial endocasts

The Caninae subfamily (dogs, foxes, jackals, wolves) is a prolific taxon with 36 extant species displaying a wide variety of behavioural and physical adaptations to wildly different environments. 3D brain moulds generated from CT-scans of skulls, called digital endocasts, are used to study the brain and its shape in a non-invasive or destructive manner. My work aimed to investigate links between w

Jacobian-free multigrid preconditioner for DG-SEM for atmospheric flow

High fidelity fluid simulations have important applications in science and engineering, examples include numerical weather prediction and simulation aided design. Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods are promising high order discretizations for simulating unsteady compressible fluid flow in three dimensions. Systems arising from such discretizations are often stiff and require implicit time integra

Train-induced vibrations in cross-laminated timber buildings : A parametric study

This study explores structural modifications for reducing train-induced vibrations in timber buildings by modifying the building layout. A parameter study was conducted using a semi-analytical ground model coupled with a finite element structural model. The train load was modeled as a stationary oscillating point load of unit magnitude, applied on the ground surface. The analyzed frequency range,

Automated deep learning segmentation of high-resolution 7 Tesla postmortem MRI for quantitative analysis of structure-pathology correlations in neurodegenerative diseases

Postmortem MRI allows brain anatomy to be examined at high resolution and to link pathology measures with morphometric measurements. However, automated segmentation methods for brain mapping in postmortem MRI are not well developed, primarily due to limited availability of labeled datasets, and heterogeneity in scanner hardware and acquisition protocols. In this work, we present a high-resolution

Exclusion and Radicalization : The Role of Individual Differences in the Relation between Exclusion and Radicalization

Radicalization is most often seen as a gradual process that may or may not lead to radical or extreme behaviors such as terrorism. Theories on the radicalization process often highlight the potential role of social exclusion in the propensity for radicalization. We here present some of the major radicalization theories and discuss exclusion as a common denominator that could trigger a radicalizati

Equino-plano-valgus foot in cerebral palsy – clinical principles and surgical techniques review (world perspective). Report from the 5th edition of the Transatlantic Orthopedic Surgery Webinar 2023

Introduction. The fifth edition of the Transatlantic Orthopedic Surgery Webinar 2023 occurred on December 4, 2023. The webinar’s main topic was treating equino-plano-valgus foot in children with cerebral palsy (CP). The event included speakers from Austria, Australia, China, India, Canada, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, the USA and the UK. Results. The first general session presented epidemiolog

Association between movement synchrony and psychological pain in therapies with suicide attempters

Introduction: Psychological pain is a central risk factor for suicidal behaviour. Nonverbal synchrony between patients and therapists has been shown to facilitate the development of therapeutic alliance, which in turn is linked to symptom reduction. Building on these associations, the present study investigated whether movement synchrony in suicide-specific therapy exceeds random synchrony and whe

Prediction of chlorophyll a concentration and analyzing its relationship with environmental factors in lake Vänern using random forest algorithm

Chlorophyll a concentration is a crucial indicator of marine primary productivity and its accurate prediction is vital for the early warning systems in marine ecosystem. Present work focused to examine the relationship between chlorophyll a concentration and environmental factors in Lake Vänern and to predict the chlorophyll a concentration using Random Forest model and Generalized linear model du

Liposuction

Lymphedema leads to lymph accumulation and adipose tissue deposition. When the lymph has been removed by combined physiotherapy and there still is a significant excess volume, the remaining swelling comprises adipose tissue. Thus, in order to completely reduce the excess volume, the fat needs to be removed with liposuction followed by the use of compression garments. Liposuction is the only method

Conjunctures of eco-social partnership unionism : The German Trade Union Confederation’s climate policies over three decades

The article analyses the climate policy of the German Trade Union Federation over the last 30 years. It defines a new form of eco social partnership unionism where unions use existing institutions to adapt to the challenges of climate change without embarking on more transformative avenues questioning the status quo. We show that unions climate policy has been subject to little change over the pas

Investerarskyddssyftet och andra ändamål i aktiebolagsrätten och aktiemarknadsrätten

The purpose of this thesis is to illustrate the purpose structure of company law and stock market law, and the various arguments for interpretation that apply when applying the law in these areas. This is done through the analysis provided the contributions in the second part of the thesis (Part II) of a number of illustrative central corporate law and stock market law issues, and through the the

Challenges and Opportunities of Smart Grid Integration with Renewable Energy and Electric Vehicles in the Middle East

The Middle East, a pivotal player in global energy markets, faces a confluence of challenges and opportunities as it navigates a transition towards sustainable energy systems. This region is home to five of the top ten oil producers in the world, and three of the top twenty gas producers. Shifting dynamics in energy demand, combined with pressing concerns for mankind to address global climate chan

Cognitive load theory principles for designing a virtual physics environment

The use of virtual learning environments is increasing, and it raises the question of how the environments are designed to benefit learning outcomes. The Cognitive Load Theory is a well-established framework for instructional design of learning environments, and introduces different design principles, based on a working memory model. This paper describes how these principles can be used in the des

T-Cell Prolymphocytic Leukemia

This chapter summarizes current knowledge and diagnostic criteria for T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL). T-PLL is an aggressive disease characterized by a proliferation of small to medium-sized lymphocytes with a postthymic phenotype usually involving the blood, bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen, and skin. The leukemic cells are usually positive for CD2, CD3 CD5, CD7, CD43, CD52, and CD26, but
