Sara Tanderup Linkis

Sara Tanderup Linkisis PI in “Between Sound and Text”. She is an Associate Professor in Publishing Studies and Digital Cultures, Lund University (Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences), Sweden. Linkis holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from Aarhus University (2016). Her research focuses on digital book cultures and digital literary cultures, sociology of literature, reading cultures, serial narratives. Since 2020, she has specialized in audiobooks and audiobook culture, focusing especially on how the developing audiobook format (re)shapes and challenges the concept of literature. Apart from leading “Between Text and Sound”, she also participates in the research project “Listening Pleasures: Sexual Health and Audio Fiction in the Age of Digital Intimacy” (2024-2029), funded by the Swedish Research Council and led by Jenny Sundén, Uppsala University. 

Linkis has expertise in the Danish and Swedish book markets and has written two reports for the Danish ministry of Culture on the impact of streaming services and the audiobook boom on Danish publishers’ and authors’ conditions (2025 and 2026). Her research is published and forthcoming in internationally acclaimed peer reviewed journals, including Orbis Litterarum, Narrative, Publishing Research Quarterly, Children’s Literature Association Quaterly, Convergence, LOGOS, Passage, K&K, Sound Studies and SoundEffects. She is the author of two monographs, Memory, Intermediality, and Literature: Something to hold on to (Routledge 2019) and Serialization in Literature across Media and Markets (Routledge, 2021). She has co-edited several anthologies, e.g. TikTok: Kulturella Perspektiv (Lund University Press, 2025) and Litteratur mellem medier (Aarhus University Press, 2018). She is the co-editor in chief of the peer-reviewed literary journal Passageand has co-edited several special issues on e.g. the sociology of literature (2023) audiobooks (2020), romance (2024), serial narratives (2018), and children’s literature (2016).

Julia Pennlert

Julia Pennlert is reader in Literary Studies and a senior lecturer with special focus on reading and reading promotion at the Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Borås.  She holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from University of Umeå (2018) and her research focuses on contemporary reading cultures, digital reading, sociology of literature and reading promotion. Since 2018 she has been part of several projects covering how reading, reading cultures and reading promotion can be related to ongoing societal changes and how these changes and competencies can generate new knowledge and insights on what it means to be a reader and work with reading promotion today. Apart from being a researcher in the project ”Between Text and Sound”, she has been part of several collaborative research projects involving cultural institutions in Sweden such as The Swedish Art Council and Swedish Agency for Accessible Media resulting in reports targeted to librarians and libraries in Swedish such as ”Strategiskt läsfrämjande på folkbibliotek.”

Pennlert has expertise in reading cultures and reading and has published extensively in international peer reviewed journals, as well as in formats such as essays and journalistic pieces in cultural pages. She has co-edited several anthologies in Swedish such as Från Strindberg till Storytel: korskopplingar mellan ljud och litteratur (Daidalos, 2021) which traces relations between sound and literature in Sweden. Pennlert is also the director for the Center for Reading and Reading Promotion at University of Borås
