Impacts of regional climatic fluctuations on radial growth of Siberian and Scots pine at Mukhrino mire (central-western Siberia)

Ring width (TRW) chronologies from Siberian (Pinus sibirica) and Scots (Pinus sylvestris) pine trees were sampled at Mukhrino – a large mire complex in central-western Siberia – to evaluate the impacts of hydroclimatic variabil- ity on tree growth over the last three centuries. Adertonhundratalets argonauter : Kunskapsinhämtning och praktisk teknikanvändning under Sveriges industriella genombrott

Argonauts of industry: Knowledge gathering and technologies in use in Sweden’s industrial breakthroughIn this article we explore how knowledge transfer about industrial production and new technologies affected Sweden’s rapid industrialisation in the second half of the nineteenth century. Removal of organic micropollutantns from wastewater in a Swedish context

Due to their potential environmental risk, the abatement of organic micropollutants from wastewater has gained increasing attention in recent years. This thesis evaluates the use of ozone in Swedish wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and the incentives for full-scale implementation of organic micropollutant removal. This work is divided into two sections: the first segment comprises quantitative rDue to their potential environmental risk, the abatement of organic micropollutants from wastewater has gained increasing attention in recent years. Hybrid renewable energy systems for remote locations

Many locations in Indonesia such as small islands and remote villages on the main islands are not connected to the main electricity grid, and may never be as they are too remote for grid extensions to be economically justifiable. Therefore, many either do not have electricity or are dependent on expensive diesel transports to fuel their stand alone, diesel powered mini-grids. Alzheimer's disease is composed of four distinct subtypes

This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. Alzheimer's disease is characterized by the abnormal accumulation and spread of the tau protein in the brain. An international study can now show how tau spreads according to four distinct patterns that lead to different symptoms with different prognoses of the affected individuals. The study was published in Nature M

Design and synthesis of 1,3-functionalized 2-propanol derivatives towards small blood-brain barrier permeable galectin-3 inhibitors

In addition to this, about 380 million people carried the biomarkers indicating Alzheimer’s, while displaying little to no symptoms. These people, however, always live with the risk of the disease progressing - making the development of a drug that can slow down or stop progression an endeavour of glob

Uppgraderingarna görs för at

The response of European forests to the change in summer temperatures : a comparison between normal and warm years, from 1996 to 2006

Popular science General introduction Two main activities take place into forests: photosynthesis, or GPP (the uptake of CO2 by plants, which leads to their growth) and respiration (the release of CO2 by those plants). The Net Ecosystem Exchange NEE is the difference between photosynthesis and respiration, and it depends on the nature of the forests and on climate particularities. With the ongoing This study shows how six different European forests react during the summer to abnormally warm temperatures, from 1996 to 2006. With the forecasted increase of summer temperatures over Europe, the carbon balance of forests – photosynthesis (GPP), ecosystem respiration and Net Ecosystem Exchange - in likely to change. In this thesis, the photosynthesis and the respiration of six European forests w
