Love at the Heart of Feminist Epistemology: On the Interconnectedness between Love and Gender

In this thesis, I investigate the concept of love in relation to feminist epistemology. Through a theoretical analysis and assessment, the aim has been to first of all examine ontological tensions between feminist works theorizing on love; secondly, to analyse which role the concept of love has in the works; and thirdly to contextualize the different ontological assumptions made within the basic t

Consumer Engagement on Brand Fan Page: An Investigation of Chinese Weibo Brand fan page

A critical issue for brand fan page marketing is to drive consumer engagement and to or- chestrate enjoyable engagement experiences that consumers desire. Despite the growing amount of research on how various characteristics of brand posts would influence different levels of consumer engagement on the brand fan page in the Western context, the study of consumers’ intrinsic motivations for engageme

Pedestrians and cyclists are so-called unprotected road users which are sensitive in the context of road safety. When it comes to road safety focus are often placed on pedestrians-cars and cyclist-cars, in this report focus are placed on the road safety between pedestrians and cyclists. Pedestrians and cyclists are often referred to a combined space, with or without a separation. The purpose of th

An Early Jurassic conifer-dominated assemblage of the Clarence-Moreton Basin, eastern Australia

Trots att den Australienska sen triassiska floran behandlats i ett flertal studieDuring the early Mesozoic two mass-extinction events profoundly reshaped the world’s biota. The first of these took place at the end of the Triassic and affected both marine organisms and terrestrial floras. The second occurred as an oceanic anoxic event during the early Toarcian. Although the Late Triassic floral assemblages of Australia have been the focus of many studies, there have been few in

Unique patient with cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis. Evidence for presence of a defect in a gene that is not identical to sterol 27-hydroxylase

Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder believed to be exclusively caused by mutations in the CYP27A1 gene coding for the enzyme sterol 27-hydroxylase. Common findings in CTX are tendon xanthomas, cataracts and progressive neurological dysfunction. Here, we characterize an adult female patient with tendon xanthomas and classic biochemical findings of CTX (i.e. h

Agreement between TOAST and CCS ischemic stroke classification The NINDS SiGN Study

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the level of agreement between stroke subtype classifications made using the Trial of Org 10172 Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST) and Causative Classification of Stroke (CCS) systems. Methods: Study subjects included 13,596 adult men and women accrued from 20 US and European genetic research centers participating in the National Institute of Neurol

Postprandial apoE Isoform and Conformational Changes Associated with VLDL Lipolysis Products Modulate Monocyte Inflammation

Objective: Postprandial hyperlipemia, characterized by increased circulating very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) and circulating lipopolysaccharide (LPS), has been proposed as a mechanism of vascular injury. Our goal was to examine the interactions between postprandial lipoproteins, LPS, and apoE3 and apoE4 on monocyte activation. Methods and Results: We showed that apoE3 complexed to phospholipi

Altering the laccase functionality by in vivo assembly of mutant libraries with different mutational spectra

The generation of diversity for directed protein evolution experiments shows an important bottleneck in the in vitro random mutagenesis protocols. Most Of them are biased towards specific changes that eventually confer a predicted and conservative mutational spectrum, limiting the exploration of the vast protein space. The current work describes a simple methodology to in vivo recombine mutant lib

Modeling the seasonality of carbon, evapotranspiration and heat processes for cold climate conditions TRITA-LWR LIC 2054. Licentiate Thesis in Land and Water Resources Engineering. KTH Architecture and the Built Environment, Stockholm

The productivity of agricultural and forest ecosystems in regions at higher latitudes is to a large extent governed by low temperature and moisture conditions. Environmental conditions are acting both above- and below-ground and regulating carbon fluxes and evapotranspiration. However, the understanding of various feedbacks between vegetation and environmental conditions is still unclear. In this

Law, Social Norms and Welfare as Means of Public Administration: Case Study of Mahalla Institutions in Uzbekistan

Despite numerous challenges, since its independence, Uzbekistan, with the exception of the May 2005 Andijan events, has enjoyed extraordinary political stability and not recorded any considerable cases of interethnic or interfaith conflict, regime change or civil war, whereas neighboring Kyrgyzstan, labeled an “island of democracy” by the Western world, has experienced numerous conflicts and chaos

Low level of antimicrobial resistance in Escherichia coli among Swedish nursing home residents

Background: Screening for bacterial colonization and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) among a defined population could aid in the identification of at-risk populations and provide targets for antibiotic stewardship and infection control programmes. Methods: Two hundred and sixty-eight participants at 11 Swedish nursing homes underwent serial screening for colonization with Escherichia coli between M

Importance of space and the local environment for linking local and regional abundances of microbes

It is frequently observed that the local relative abundances of aquatic microbial taxa are correlated with their average relative abundance at the regional scale, which results in the composition of different communities being more similar than expected by chance or invariant. The degree to which communities within a region match the regional average community is variable and likely depends on sev

Holocene geocentric dipole tilt model constrained by sedimentary paleomagnetic data

Paleomagnetic data, although undeniably limited, have been used to constrain complex time-varying geomagnetic field models. Here we present four different versions of a time varying geocentric dipole model for the past approximately 9000 years based on a limited selection of sedimentary paleomagnetic data with good spatial coverage. The robustness of the modeling approach is evaluated using modern

The growth of charged platelets

Growth models of charged nanoplatelets are investigated with Monte Carlo simulations and simple theory. In a first model, 2-dimensional simulations in the canonical ensemble are used to demonstrate that the growth of a single weakly charged platelet could be limited by its own internal repulsion. The short range attractive interaction in the crystal is modeled with a square well potential while th
