Development and status for large-scale demand responsive transport

Purpose - To offer knowledge about the global development of largescale demand responsive transport systems (DRT), and to stimulate dialogue and collaboration for further innovation and improvement of these systems. Design/methodology/approach - A review of the literature shows how DRT has evolved from the first applications in the 1970s to very complex operations in the last two decades with hund

Den som dokumenterar en grop åt andra

An archaeological excavation made within contract archaeology almost invariably means that the site is destroyed. This means that the documentation, which can be seen as the site’s remaining archive, is extremely important. In this master’s thesis the written digital documentation from eight excavations made within Swedish contract archaeology between 2000 and 2013 is examined using the technique

GFORCE-PD still going strong in 2016

In 2014, a new initiative was undertaken by groups working on plans for the transplantation of stem-cell-based derived dopaminergic neurons for treating Parkinson’s disease patients. This GForce-PD group held its annual meeting on 18–19 April 2016 in Chicago at Rush University to discuss their progress and the challenges that the translation of this experimental therapy still faces. Over 2 days, t

Differences in implementation and effects of the public procurement act in the EU construction sector

All member countries in the EU must follow the given directive for public procurement that has been decided upon. The purpose of the directive is to ensure a sufficient public procurement and a sound use of public resources. However, knowledge about the implementation and effects of the directive is limited. One clear indication is that the effects vary between different countries in the EU. A pre

Users and Producers of African Income : Measuring African Progress

This article traces how African incomes have been measured through history, and shows that there has been a conflict of aims between producers and users of national income estimates. Politicians and international organizations seek income measures that reflect current political and economic priorities and achievements. Thus the importance given to markets, the state, and peasants in the estimates

Smart Cities in practice. A comparative case study between Warsaw, Gdynia, Copenhagen and Malmö. A public actor’s perspective with a secondary focus on collaboration and digitization

The purpose of this dissertation was to examine what Smart City concept entails in practice rather than a theory, with a clear secondary focus on digitization and collaboration as the means to deliver successful Smart City projects. This project sheds light on the public actor’s managerial perspective on many actual topics for the globalized world, where cities play a pivotal role. By interviewing

Reductions in anthropogenic methane emissions outweigh the most likely scenarios for Arctic methane release

This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. Climate change causes an amplified warming of the Arctic, which may lead to the release of methane from previously frozen soils. Since it’s a strong greenhouse gas, arctic methane release can act as a positive feedback on climate change. However, anthropogenic efforts to reduce methane emissions may be more important

Trellis Decoding: From Algorithm to Flexible Architectures

Trellis decoding is a popular method to recover encoded information corrupted during transmission over a noisy channel. Prominent members of this class of decoding algorithms are the Viterbi algorithm, which provides maximum likelihood estimates, and the BCJR algorithm, which is a maximum a posteriori estimator commonly used in iterative decoding. In this thesis, the Viterbi algorithm is chosen si

Decision-Analytic Models: Current Methodological Challenges

Modelers seeking to help inform decisions about insurance (public or private) coverage of the cost of pharmaceuticals or other health care interventions face various methodological challenges. In this review, which is not meant to be comprehensive, we cover those that in our experience are most vexing. The biggest challenge is getting decision makers to trust the model. This is a major problem bec

The result is a number of floating chronologies, of which the longest cover 570 years. The three most valuable chronologies were 14C-dated to construct dated chronologies. These chronologies are of certain dendrochronological

Kvarteret Flaggskepparen, Industriellt byggande för offentligt ägda bostäder -En fallstudie i samarbete med NCC Komponent och MKB

The primary focus of this Master thesis is to study how industrial house building can be implemented during production of rental flats under the terms of public procurement. In order to determine a suitable working process as well as presenting a possible architectonic result of the process, a case study is carried through. A housing projekt is designed on a site i Malmö, where the commisioner is
