Fråga: Hur kan ni veta att mitt barn har förhöjd risk för diabetes? Svar: När ditt barn föddes togs det ett blodprov från barnets navelsträng. I det blodprovet kan man ta reda på ärftligheten för autoimmun (typ 1) diabetes. Man vet sedan tidigare vilken ärftlighet personer med autoimmun diabetes har och därför vet man vilka som har den förhöjda ärftligheten. Ert barn har alltså bara ärftlig risk.
