Through the years, most gender norms have been challenged or changed in modern society. Yet each Christmas, a strikingly similar image of Santa Claus appears in the media and in our homes. What is is about Santa Claus that makes him immune to the criticism that other male patriarchal figures have endured? ”A lot of Swedish parents these days are very gender aware and progressive. This hasn’t seeme

UN Climate Report: How vulnerable are we and how can we adapt?
How vulnerable is humanity in the face of climate change? And how have people around the world already been impacted? These are some of the questions to be answered on 28 February by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Two researchers from Lund University participated in the final report – Martina Angela Caretta and Emily Boyd. For three years, approximately three hundred top resea

Has the EU ETS been efficient in reducing carbon dioxide emissions without harming firm revenue?
The increasing urgency of climate change has raised the need for effective climate policy. The European Union emissions trading system (EU ETS) is the world’s first and largest ‘cap and trade’ policy which aims at reducing carbon dioxide emissions at the most cost-efficient allocation. The iron and steel industry is the largest emitter of carbon dioxide emissions in the Swedish industry sector. Ye
Has Williamson's Claim that Knowledge Is the most General Factive Mental State Been Disproved?
In this paper, I evaluate some recent attacks on Williamson's claim that knowledge is the most general factive stative propositional attitude. Two types of approaches are discussed: The first approach attempts to show that there are factive mental states denoted by factive mental state operators that are not cases of knowing. The second approach aims to show that there are factive mental states th

New findings on ‘key players’ in brain inflammation
This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. Inflammation is a natural reaction of the body’s immune system to an aggressor or an injury, but if the inflammatory response is too strong it becomes harmful. Inflammatory processes occur in the brain in conjunction with stroke and neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Researchers from Lu

Researchers create cells that help the brain keep its cool
Researchers at Lund University in Sweden have created a method that makes it possible to transform the brain’s support cells into parvalbumin-positive cells. These cells act as the brain’s rapid-braking system and are significantly involved in schizophrenia, epilepsy and other neurological conditions. Parvalbumin cells play a central role in keeping brain activity in equilibrium. They control nerv

More efficient lubricants using sawdust
Cycling becomes a lot harder if you don’t oil the bicycle chain! Similarly, you can’t cut metal, turn metal on a lathe or press sheet metal without lubricant. Previously in engineering works there was a flow of lubricant that is hazardous for health and the environment, but now the technology exists to reduce consumption of lubricant. In time, the mineral oils used today may be replaced by vegetab
