Combined impacts of extreme climate events and pandemic on future energy use in low-income households in Greater London

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on building energy use has been studied across various countries. However, with the growing trend toward flexible working and the rising frequency of climate-induced extreme weather events, the combined effects of these factors on future energy use remain largely unexplored. This study develops a methodology to investigate the resilience of the UK's low-income h

Benchmarking strategies to control GHG production and emissions

Benchmarking has been a useful tool for unbiased comparison of control strategies in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in terms of effluent quality, operational cost and risk of suffering microbiology-related total suspended solids (TSS) separation problems. This chapter presents the status of extending the original Benchmark Simulation Model No 2 (BSM2) towards including greenhouse gas (GHG) em

The reconstruction of the archaeological landascape through virtual reality applications : A discussion about methodology

The virtual reconstruction of the archaeological landscape is a very complex process including in a virtual ecosystem many kinds of data, activities, according to a multidisciplinary approach. This system of relations, interactions and behaviors assumes perceptive, cultural, psychological and relevance. The virtual environment and archaeological structures, as they are today, can be reconstructed

Extending the ALICE strong-interaction studies to nuclei: measurement of proton-deuteron correlations in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV

The large data sample of high-multiplicity pp collisions collected by ALICE allows for the precise measurement of the size of source producing primary hadrons, opening the doors to a study of the interaction of different hadron species using femtoscopy techniques. The momentum correlation between (anti)protons and (anti)deuterons measured in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV with ALICE is studied here

Sweden

The #FridaysForFuture climate protests mobilized more than 1.6 million people around the globe in March 2019. Through a school strike, a new generation has been galvanized, representing a historical turn in climate activism. This wave of climate protest mobilization is unique in its tactics, global scope and appeal to teenage school students. Media coverage of these protests and high-level nationa

Towards more flexible enterprise information systems

The aim of this paper is to present the software development techniques used to build the EIS Patterns development framework, which is a testbed for a series of techniques that aim at giving more flexibility to EIS in general. Some of these techniques are customizations or extensions of practices created by the agile software development movement, while others represent new proposals. This paper a

Thirty-years' experience of prenatal diagnosis of haemophilia in Sweden

Aims: To study the number, outcome and reasons for prenatal diagnosis (PND) and how it has affected the incidence of haemophilia, the number of siblings and the number of potential carriers in the families. Study Group: Women in SWE, compromising over 95% of total, who underwent PND of haemophilia during the years 1970-2010. A total of 46 women were identified who together underwent 79 PND procedu

Large Eddy Simulation and Experiments of Stratified Lean Premixed Methane/Air Turbulent Flames

This paper presents a joint large eddy simulation and laser diagnostic investigation of premixed turbulent low swirl flames. A lean premixed methane/air mixture, of the equivalence ratio 0.60-0.66, is injected from a 50 mm diameter low swirl burner to a low speed co-flowing air at room temperature and pressure. The level-set G-equation is employed to simulate the inner layer flame front. Flamelet

The Dead Sea Future Elevation

In this paper water and salt mass balances for the Dead Sea were modeled. Precipitation, evaporation, river discharges, ground water flows, input/output from potash companies and salt production, and brine discharge were included in the models. The mixing time in the Dead Sea was modeled using a single-layer (well-mixed) a two-layer (stratified) system. Using the single-layer approach the water le
