Interlaboratory tests on thermal foot models

In order to compare measurements in different laboratories and with different models and measuring principles a small Round Robin test was suggested. 12 test institutions were able to join the study (with foot model sizes from 254 mm to 275 mm and test boot sizes from 41 to 44). We got also a declaration of interest from 2 other institutes that were not able to carry out the tests now. A database

Relationship between safety culture and psychosocial working environment in air traffic control

The Swedish Air Navigation Service Provider in cooperation with the University of Lund aims at developing a model for supporting continuous improvements and learning focusing on safety in air traffic control. This paper focuses on relationships between the safety culture and the psychosocial working environment. These areas were studied using questionnaires at the two main air traffic control cent

Characterisation of the microbial community in indoor environments: Critical evaluation of sample storage conditions

Assessment of indoor air quality in terms of microbial flora is important since inhalation of air-borne microorganisms has been associated e.g. with asthma and allergy. We focus on certain unique microbial markers: muramic acid, marker of bacterial peptidoglycan/biomass; 3-hydroxy fatty acids with 10-18 carbon chains, markers of lipopolysaccharide (LPS, endotoxin) of Gram-negative bacteria; and er

Gate-Defined Quantum Devices Realized in InGaAs/InP by Incorporating a High-kappa Layer as Gate Dielectric

Single and double quantum dot devices are realized in InGaAs/InP heterostructures by top gating technology with incorporated High-kappa HfO2 gate dielectric layers. At 300 mK, Coulomb blockade effects are observed in as-fabricated devices, and the charge states can be measured by the integrated quantum point contacts. The developed technology should stimulate the research on quantum devices made f

Self-calibration from Image Derivatives for Active Vision Systems

In this paper we show how to calibrate a camera, mounted on a robot, with respect to the intrinsic camera parameters when the so-called hand-eye transformation between the robot hand and the camera is unknown. The calibration is based directly on the spatial and temporal derivatives in an image sequence and do not need any matching and tracking of features or a reference object. The calibration is

Strategic value of IS integration in M&A - the relation between IS integration and M&A as a tool for corporate strategy

During the last decade research in the scientific domain of information systems (IS) in corporate mergers and acquisitions (M&As) has become increasingly popular. A not very surprising development regarding the significance of the empirical phenomenon of M&A and the importance of IS for modern business. However, the idea of IS playing an important role in M&As rests on assumptions, ane

Detection of Stance-Related Characteristics in Social Media Text

In this paper, we present a study for the identification of stancerelated features in text data from social media. Based on our previous work on stance and our findings on stance patterns, we detected stance-related characteristics in a data set from Twitter and Facebook. We extracted various corpus-, quantitative- and computational-based features that proved to be significant for six stance categ

Runoff prediction under different climate scenarios in the source region of the yellow river

Climate change has great effect on water resources in the source region of the Yellow River, which affects agricultural productivity, industrial water supply and wildlife management in the whole river basin. The hydrologic characteristics of precipitation, temperature and runoff in the source region of the Yellow River are analyzed using the long-term observed data from 1961 to 2010. The trend of

Deep decarbonisation pathways for the industrial cluster of the Port of Rotterdam

The Port of Rotterdam is an important industrial cluster mainly comprising of oil refining, chemical manufacturing and power and steam generation. In 2015, the area accounted for 18 % of the Netherlands' total CO2 emissions. The Port of Rotterdam Authority is aware that the port's economy is heavily exposed to future global and EU decarbonization policies, as the bulk of its activities focuses on

Monolithic single-shot dispersion-scan : A new tool for real-time measurement and optimization of femtosecond pulses

The precise characterization of femtosecond laser pulses is as challenging as their generation and a topic of intense research. Dispersion-scan (d-scan) [1] is a recently established technique where the spectrum of a nonlinear signal, e.g., second-harmonic generation (SHG), is measured as a function of dispersion applied to the pulse. The spectral phase of the pulse can then be retrieved from the

Characterization of Atrial Fibrillation Episodes Using a Point Process Model

The purpose of the present study is to introduce a point process model for characterizing the pattern of atrial fibrillation (AF) episodes. A variant of the bivariate Hawkes process is proposed, accounting for clustered episodes. The model parameters are inferred by the maximum likelihood method. The goodness-of-fit analysis show that model fits the data in most of the recordings (27 out of 32). T
