Social Work with Homelessness in Sweden: On Local Discretions and Social Inequality

Globally, Sweden is often perceived as a relatively equal society. Swedish citizens pay significant amount of taxes and taxation on income is progressive. In addition, it is an explicit task of Swedish social services nationwide to counteract inequality and serve as a “last resort” for the country’s most vulnerable people. Social services are publicly funded, and support from the social services aGlobally, Sweden is often perceived as a relatively equal society. Investigation of a CO-Production of Substitute Natural Gas and Biomethanol Plant Compared to Stand Alone Biomethanol Plant

Klimatförändringar är en av mänsklighetens stora utmaningar, över hela världen obbar forskare och företag på att ta fram nya tekniker och innovationer för att bidra till en fosilfri framtid.Climate change is one of humanities greatest challenges; the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are still increasing. There is not one solution that will fix this problem several different products, raw material and technologies are required to take the steps towards a renewable society. Biomethanol and substitute natural gas, are two fossil free energy carrier, they can both be produced through g

28MOD_Sustainability draft

28MOD_Sustainability draft LTH:s 13:e Pedagogiska Inspirationskonferens, 4 december 2025 Abstract— As engineering faculties strive to educate students equipped to navigate accelerating polycrises, a persistent challenge is embedding sustainability coherently across curricula at the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) at Lund University. This paper articulates and discusses a contextual, multi-level model

These 90,000 people normally all have assets and liabilities that do not cease to exist by reason of demise. Debts must be paid, and assets distributed in accordance with legal succession or, when applicable, in accordance with a last will and testament. The general rule is that it is those who are entitled to the assets and, who are also affected by t

Sensorimotor stroke; Clinical features, MRI findings, and cardiac and vascular concomitants in 32 patients

Background and purpose. Sensorimotor stroke (SMS) is often included among the lacunar syndromes, although the underlying cause of this stroke-subtype is less well documented. To this end we analysed 32 patients presenting with a sensorimotor syndrome. Methods. The study protocol included vascular risk factors, echocardiography, Doppler sonography of carotid arteries, CT scan and MRI of the brain.

Assessing Students’ Knowledge on WASH-Related Diseases

Water-, sanitation-, and hygiene-related diseases are killing many people each year in developing countries, including Rwanda, and children under the age of five are the most vulnerable. This research assessed human waste disposal practices, knowledge on diseases caused by contact with human faeces, and knowledge on causes and prevention of selected WASH-related diseases. One thousand one hundred

Strategies and tools for speed management on European roads.

The aim of the European project MASTER (MAnaging Speeds of Traffic on European Roads) is to produce information that can be cited in the preparation of national and EU decisions concerning speed management and standards for speed control equipment. For this purpose, the project seeks answers to three key questions:1) What are acceptable ranges of speeds?2) What are the key factors influencing driv

Numerical study of turbulent forced convection in a finned tube with and without CuO nano fluid

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to carry out a numerical investigation to study forced convection for a tube with fins on the inner and outer surfaces with water as the base fluid and adding particles of CuO to have a nanofluid. Design/methodology/approach - Three geometries are designed by using Solid Works and the number of inside fins is 20 with height 6 mm and thickness 1mm. The number

Human echolocation : Acoustic gaze for burst trains and continuous noise

This study explored the ability of blind and sighted listeners to detect reflections, "echoes", of burst trains or continuous noise. Echo detection was compared by presenting 5 ms bursts, rates from 1 to 64 bursts, with a continuous white noise, all during 500 ms. Sounds were recorded in an ordinary room through an artificial binaural head, the loudspeaker 1 m behind it. The reflecting object was

Variability in muscle fibre areas in whole human quadriceps muscle. How much and why?

To determine the variability in fibre areas in the human vastus lateralis muscle, cross-sections (15 microns) of whole autopsied muscles from eight young men have been prepared, and the cross-sectional area (CSA) of 375 type 1 and 375 type 2 fibres has been measured in five different regions throughout each muscle. The CSA of both fibre types varied significantly within all muscle cross-sections.

How Proofs are Prepared at Camelot

We study a design framework for robust, independently verifiable, and workload-balanced distributed algorithms working on a common input. The framework builds on recent noninteractive Merlin--Arthur proofs of batch evaluation of Williams~[31st IEEE Colloquium on Computational Complexity (CCC'16, May 29-June 1, 2016, Tokyo), to appear] with the basic observation that Merlin's magic is not needed fo

Strong association between glucocerebrosidase mutations and Parkinson's disease in Sweden

Several genetic studies have demonstrated an association between mutations in glucocerebrosidase (GBA), originally implicated in Gaucher's disease, and an increased risk of Parkinson's disease (PD). We have investigated the possible involvement of genetic GBA variations in PD in the Swedish population. Three GBA variants, E326K, N370S, and L444P were screened in the largest Swedish Parkinson cohor

Protein Kinase C-γ and Calcium/Calmodulin-Dependent Protein Kinase II-α Are Persistently Translocated to Cell Membranes of the Rat Brain during and after Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion

The levels of protein kinase C-γ (PKC-γ) and the calcium/calmodulin-dependent kinase II-α (CaMKII-α) were measured in crude synaptosomal (P2), particulate (P3), and cytosolic (S3) fractions of the neocortex of rats exposed to 1-hour and 2-hour middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and 2-hour MCAO followed by 2-hour reperfusion. During MCAO, PKC levels increased in P2 and P3 in the most severe is

Alterations in the plasma metabolite profile associated with improved hepatic function and glycemia in mice fed lingonberry supplemented high-fat diets

Scope: Lingonberries have been shown to reduce the detrimental effects of high-fat diet (HFD) on weight gain, plasma glucose, and inflammation. However, the extent of effects was recently shown to vary between different batches of berries. Here, we examine the metabolic response to two independent batches of lingonberries. Methods and results: Alterations in the phenotype and circulating metabolom
