“We have to adapt and find the best solution for this context.“ - A Comparative Case Study of the Patterns of Success in two Swedish Technical Assistance Projects with Kenyan Government Agencies

Technical assistance to public sector organisations is a much-debated topic and showcases a considerable size in contemporary international development assistance. Yet, the empirical evidence base on which factors contribute to the outcomes of projects within this field is surprisingly slim and diffuse. Particularly, the mechanisms through which different factors affect project outcomes remains un

My best friend’s doctor’s appointment: A social anthropological study on the restoration of dolls and stuffed animals by and for adults

This thesis analyzes how and why old toys are restored by and for adults, despite contemporary Western society's understanding of toys as signifiers of childhood exclusively. With this in mind, the intent is to answer whether childhood attachments to toys can also be observed in adults by analyzing how the restoration process of toys reaffirms emotional and social significance for all involved

“Our Best Enemy”: Right to Repair and the Politics of Agonistic Circularity

Circular economy (CE) is both contesting the status quo and a contested idea, for which many competing understandings and implementations exist. And yet, analyses of the role of social conflicts and pluralism are rare in the CE literature, overly focused on convergence and cooperation. To address this research gap, we draw on Mouffe’s “agonistic pluralism” political theory. Empirically, the study

The Best of Both Worlds for Newborn Survival - The relationship between neonatal health behavior and beliefs according to mothers; A case study in the Southern Province of Zambia

In the context of a global surge in attention towards reducing neonatal mortality in developing countries, this study explores how mothers in the Southern Province of Zambia describe their behavior to prevent and care for neonatal illnesses, and how this behavior is related to their beliefs on neonatal illness causation. 6DOF Object Recognition and Positioning for Robotics Using Next Best View Heuristics

The accuracy and portability of depth cameras have increased by a lot in recent years, which allows for advanced 3D scanning of the environment for robotic applications. In this thesis we have developed a system that uses a depth camera mounted on a robot arm to identify and localize arbitrary objects, and give hints on how to move the camera to get better localization results. The system works by
