Adapting to Climate-Related Human Mobility into Europe : Between the Protection Agenda and the Deterrence Paradigm, or Beyond?

In 2015, following a series of sub-regional consultations, 109 states endorsed an Agenda for the Protection of Cross-Border Displaced Persons in the Context of Disasters and Climate Change. Although active in supporting the consultative process and notwithstanding their endorsement of this ‘Protection Agenda’, the European Union and its Member States promote ‘effective practices’ in the global SouIn 2015, following a series of sub-regional consultations, 109 states endorsed an Agenda for the Protection of Cross-Border Displaced Persons in the Context of Disasters and Climate Change. Does you mean I? : Generic du (‘you’) as a case of informalization and subjectification in Swedish

In Swedish today, du (‘you’) is sometimes used with generic reference. This use of generic du is often claimed to be a new invention, triggered by English influence in the late 20th century. However, in this article an analysis of occurrences of du from the period 1225–2013 is presented that demonstrates that generic du was used even as early as the Old Swedish period (1225–1526), i.e. long beforeIn Swedish today, du (‘you’) is sometimes used with generic reference. Passenger flows and dwell times for commuter trains in Stockholm

This study investigates how the volume and flow of passengers affect dwell times, usingdata from commuter trains in Stockholm. We show that dwell times often take longer thanscheduled and that most station stops involve rather limited numbers of passengers.Improving the performance at these stops with small volumes can thus have a sizeableimpact on the overall on-time performance. Simulation of THz Quantum Cascade Lasers

Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs) have since their invention in 1994 become a crucial source for mid-infrared and THz radiation. Mid-infrared QCLs have achieved room temperature operation while THz QCLs have not. As such, simulations are an important tool in order to achieve a THz QCL operational at room temperature. This work uses a simulation package based on a nonequilibrium Green’s function model Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs) can be designed to emit radiation in the Terahertz (THz) range. For these frequencies, which are faster than electronics and slower than infrared light, there are currently only few devices facing a wide potential of applications. The realization of room temperature operation of THz QCLs would enable practical use in e.g. spectroscopy and public safety. The question i

(How) do Children’s Rights to Participation take form in custody cases? The illusion of an institutional and legal framework safeguarding the child’s perspective

Starting from the premise that child participation is an individual right, this chapter exposes the institutional challenges and contradictions that shape how professionals navigate children’s voices in Swedish custody disputes. Based on judge interviews and court observations, we find that direct child involvement remains rare—decisions rely on proxies such as parental testimony and social-servicStarting from the premise that child participation is an individual right, this chapter exposes the institutional challenges and contradictions that shape how professionals navigate children’s voices in Swedish custody disputes.

De varumärkesförfalskade produkterna består inte längre av dåligt imiterade solglasögon utan av professionellt utformade kopioCounterfeiting has long been considered a rather harmless phenomenon. However, counterfeiting has evolved from a small-scale activity into one on an industrial scale. It has come to pose a serious threat, not only to the interests of the right holder, but to the consumers and the society as a whole. Counterfeit products are no longer just poorly crafted copies of sunglasses; today they are profess

Development of a phantom for the verification of stereotactic arrhythmic radioablation treatment deliveries

Aim: Phantoms are used daily in the clinic for radiotherapy. As more realistic phantoms are requested, 3D printing could be used but the design of a realistic phantom is difficult. The purpose of this project was to design and 3D print an anthropomorphic phantom that could be used for verification of complex treatment such as stereotactic arrhythmic radioablation treatments without the use of pati

The influence and impact of Japan to upbringing the human rights norms in Southeast Asia through the world of business

Japan’s influence in Southeast Asia has been enormous throughout history, whether in its military occupation, culture, or economic ties, and there is no doubt that Southeast Asia has developed under its influence. Have Southeast Asian states then developed and improved their human rights situation because of Japan? Or has Japan aggravated the situation being “blue washed”, by performing its busine

English Summary This master thesis concerns the lives of spouses to someone who is incurably sick and dying. The study took place in the homes of married couples where one of them is incurably sick with cancer. I have visited the couples talked with them and interviewed them, some together and some separately. This has made the empirical foundation for the present thesis. It becomes clear that th

Assessing parameter variability in a photosynthesis model within and between plant functional types using global Fluxnet eddy covariance data

The vegetation component in climate models has advanced since the late 1960s from a uniform prescription of surface parameters to plant functional types (PFTs) PFTs are used in global land-surface models to provide parameter values for every model grid cell With a simple photosynthesis model we derive parameters for all site years within the Fluxnet eddy covariance data set We compare the model pa

Phenology and its role in carbon dioxide exchange processes in northern peatlands

Ecosystem phenology plays an important role in carbon exchange processes and can be derived from continuous records of carbon dioxide (CO2) exchange data. In this study we examined the potential use of phenological indices for characterizing cumulative annual CO2 exchange in four contrasting northern peatland ecosystems. We used the approach of Jonsson and Eklundh (2004) to derive a set of phenolo

Responding to the Eurozone Crisis - Applying the Shadow Rating Approach to Determine Economic Capital for Sovereign Exposures

The recent European sovereign-debt crisis has made it clear that exposures towards sovereigns contain credit risk. However, according to the Basel framework's standardized approach banks are not required to hold any regulatory capital for highly rated sovereigns. In response, this thesis develops a shadow rating approach model for sovereign probability of default estimation, subsequently deter

Extending the scope of alchemical perturbation methods for ligand binding free energy calculations

Previously, a method for computing binding free energies between different poses of a ligand bound to a protein using alchemical perturbation was developed. The methodology is to perturb the ligand into a smaller version, common to both poses, from which the difference in free energy between poses can be computed. Here, the method is further improved by finding low-error setups for the method, by

VaR and ES through FX exposure at Trelleborg Group

This thesis explores the parametric and nonparametric approaches for estimating Value at Risk and Expected Shortfall through foreign exchange exposure. The data for this study was provided by Trelleborg Group. We look at the translational risk on the balance sheet when translating the Groups investments in foreign subsidiaries to SEK. In the parametric approach we make the assumption that the po
