Ecology of Animal Migration

An international course for postgraduate students In the autumn of 2027, the international PhD course on the Ecology of Animal Migration will run again. Invited and Lund-based international authorities in the field give lectures that cover different aspects of animal migration. PhD students working on animal migration and related animal movement topics are encouraged to apply. Animals move across

Staging, Accommodating or Caring : Reviewing the Human Labor Involved in Shaping Robots into Agents

This review examines the hidden and invisible labor humans perform to enable robots to function as agents within Human-Robot Interaction (HRI). While robot agency is often framed as internal and autonomous, this perspective overlooks the relational dynamics that sustain robot functionality in real-world settings. Drawing on feminist theory, the review highlights how humans frequently share the res

Indirect Approach to Mixed-Integer Optimal Control

We study mixed-integer optimal control problem using indirect approaches. The proposed method relies on splitting algorithms which separate the mixed problem into two solvable pieces and then iteratively alternating between the two. The algorithm gives approximated local solutions, and provides lower and upper bounds estimations of the global optimum. Simulations are provided to validate our appro

SIGNATURE KERNEL CONDITIONAL INDEPENDENCE TESTS IN CAUSAL DISCOVERY FOR STOCHASTIC PROCESSES

Inferring the causal structure underlying stochastic dynamical systems from observational data holds great promise in domains ranging from science and health to finance. Such processes can often be accurately modeled via stochastic differential equations (SDEs), which naturally imply causal relationships via 'which variables enter the differential of which other variables'. In this paper, we devel

Transphobia : A ”New Antisemitism”

In this paper, I explore similarities and differences between contemporary transphobic and anti-Jewish discourses. While scholars have shown entanglements between homophobic and antisemitic discourses in the European 19th century, as well as similarities between contemporary homonationalist and Western philosemitic discourses, less attention has been paid to how anti-trans and anti-Jewish discours

How Consumer Culture Grows : The Eigendynamik of Consumption

The current climate crisis has generated social pressure to slow consumption down. Despite this, consumer culture is continuously developing and growing. How is this possible? Our paper provides theoretical clues to this question by developing a novel model of thought for consumption growth, based on Georg Simmel’s notion of Eigendynamik.

ECG-Based Long-Term Prediction of Atrial Fibrillation

Identification of patients at risk to develop atrial fibrillation (AF) can enable more frequent follow-up and lead to earlier detection of AF. The aim of this project was to perform long-term AF prediction based on a novel set of ECG-derived features describing the characteristics of supraventricular arrhythmias present before new onset AF. In total, 12 199 patients aged 75/76 performed repeated s
