Palestinians represent one of the largest refugee populations in the world, and are reserved a special legal status under Article 1D of the Refugee Convention. A number of urgent novel questions are now also arising from the current genocide and mass displacement in Gaza, yet the refugee law studies community on the whole remains silent. This article examines academic silence and Israeli pinkwashi

Isotopic differences in the distribution of nuclear charge and magnetization give rise to "hyperfine structure anomalies" which were observed already in the 1950s. More recently, the distribution of nuclear magnetization has been found to complicate the interpretation of the measured hyperfine splittings in highly charged hydrogen-like ions. In this paper, results of numerical calculations for a f

By the use of relativistic many-body theory, the hyperfine structure of the 7p state of Fr211 was calculated. By including polarization effects in all orders, good agreement for the magnetic dipole constant was obtained. In the same way, a new value of the electric quadrupole moment is obtained: Q=-240 mb for Fr211(P322).

Radiative lifetimes have been determined for the 62P12/0 and 62P32/0 levels in Yb II using the method of laser-induced fluorescence from sputtered metal vapour. The results, 8.0(2)ns (62P12/0) and 6.3(3)ns (62P32/0), are compared with lifetimes obtained from ab initio manybody perturbation calculations.

There are many laws of physics involved in the design and operation of roller coasters, carousels, and other amusement rides. Physics for the Whole Body in Playgrounds and Amusement Parks teaches these concepts in an exciting and approachable way by linking them with students’ personal experiences of rides in amusement parks. This unique book features:Immersive elements to learn scientific principl

Quantum mechanics has been enormously successful. The equations and rules enable accurate calculations and predictions of energies and other properties of atoms, molecules, and materials. Quantum-physics-based technology is an integrated part of our daily lives. Still, the understanding and interpretation of quantum physics offer many challenges, with the counterintuitive consequences of the rules

This study presents a digital solution for inducing visually-induced motion sickness (VIMS) using a head-mounted display (HMD) in a virtual environment. By digitally replicating off vertical axis rotation by adopting the Epley Omniax Chair, we induce sensory conflicts between the visual and vestibular systems through rotational vection, alongside optokinetic stimulation inspired by the Optoki-neti

Tumor resection of advanced pelvic and recurrence pelvic cancers is highly challenging, because the resections often are performed outside the standard surgical resections planes, and therefore are associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. Knowledge of normal anatomy combined with improved imaging modalities and new technology give the best-possible preparation to clarify the tumor spe

This manuscript reports the results of an international consensus on technologies of hyperthermic intraperitoneal perioperative chemotherapy (HIPEC) performed with the following goals: To provide recommendations for the technological parameters to perform HIPEC. To identify the role of heat and its application forms in treating peritoneal metastases. To provide recommendations regarding the correc

Purpose: Flaps are used for repair of defects after tumor excision and often need stretching and rotating to cover the defects. Manipulation of flaps may affect blood perfusion, which is crucial for healing. The aim was to examine the impact on perfusion by stretching and rotating forehead skin flaps. Methods: Blood perfusion was monitored using laser speckle contrast imaging in 19 flaps, raised a

PURPOSE: Despite rising global demand, geriatrics is often overlooked by young physicians due to its perceived complexity and limited career development. Launched by the European Geriatric Medicine Society, the Early Career Geriatricians Initiative (ECGI) aims to counter this perception with its rich educational, research, and leadership opportunities.METHODS: This article provides a narrative ove

The pathophysiological mechanisms driving disease progression of frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) and corresponding biomarkers are not fully understood. Here we leveraged aptamer-based proteomics (>4,000 proteins) to identify dysregulated communities of co-expressed cerebrospinal fluid proteins in 116 adults carrying autosomal dominant FTLD mutations (C9orf72, GRN and MAPT) compared with 3

The cerebellum is a large brain structure. Most of the mass and volume of the cerebellum is made up by the cerebellar cortex. The outer layer of the cerebellar cortex is divided functionally into long, thin strips called microzones. We argue that the cerebellar microzone computation is the aggregate of simple unit computations and a passive effect of anatomy, unaided and unlearned, which we recrea
