The exercise capacity of 20 predialytic uraemic patients (mean age 43 ± 12 years) was studied prospectively. Nine of these patients were examined twice in a longitudinal study. The maximal working capacity, measured by standardized exercise test on a bicycle ergometer, averaged 74 ± 19% of the expected normal. Normal exercise ECG were registered in 16 out of 20 patients. Total hemoglobin/kg body w

The occurrence of heart disease in uraemic patients was evaluated from study of 94 autopsied cases of chronic renal failure. The most common autopsy-ascertained causes of death were congestive heart failure (37%), acute myocardial infarction (13%) and tamponading pericarditis (8%). Death from congestive heart failure was significantly more common among the patients aged 60 or more than in the youn

The serum concentration of cobalt (s-Co) was determined in 10 patients with various stages of renal failure and was compared with hemodynamic subsets. S-Co was elevated in most patients. S-Co did not correlate to cardiac index, but there was a significant correlation between s-Co and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (r=0.67; p

This contribution presents a novel model-based methodology for open-loop optimal control of batch high-pressure liquid chromatographic (HPLC) separation processes. The framework allows for simultaneous optimization of target component recovery yield and production rate with respect to a parameterization of the input elution trajectory and fractionating interval endpoints. The proposed methodology

We present simulations of atmospheric CO 2 concentrations provided by two modeling systems, run at high spatial resolution: the Eulerian-based Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model and the Lagrangian-based Stochastic Time-Inverted Lagrangian Transport (STILT) model, both of which are coupled to a diagnostic biospheric model, the Vegetation Photosynthesis and Respiration Model (VPRM). The consis

Common transport models use the mixing height (MH) to determine turbulent coefficients and to obtain tracer concentrations in the planetary boundary layer (PBL). We conducted a pseudo data experiment to elucidate the impact of assimilating MHs to improve CO2 transport within the Stochastic Time-Inverted Lagrangian Transport model (STILT). Transport of CO2 was simulated for August 2006 with a recep

REMO-HAM is a new regional aerosol-climate model. It is based on the REMO regional climate model and includes most of the major aerosol processes. The structure for aerosol is similar to the global aerosol-climate model ECHAM5-HAM, for example the aerosol module HAM is coupled with a two-moment stratiform cloud scheme. On the other hand, REMO-HAM does not include an online coupled aerosol-radiatio

Gender-inclusive language has been consciously applied in almost all significant English Bible translations over the last thirty years. It has only recently been introduced into Swedish Bible translation practices, however, with the test translation of Luke 9:51–19:28 and Galatians issued by the Swedish Bible Society. This fact signals that the next Swedish Bible translation will implement gender-

B cells are essential cells that are part of the adaptive immune system with the capacity to produce antibodies against exogenous antigens. These cells are produced through a process called hematopoiesis, tightly regulated by extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Among these, tyrosine kinase receptors and their cytokines have been shown to have an important role in adult lymphopoiesis regulation. Howev

OBJECTIVE: Although weight history is relevant in predicting eating disorder symptom severity, little is known about its role in the etiology of anorexia nervosa (AN). This study aimed to determine whether BMI or BMI trajectory differed between individuals who later developed adolescent-onset AN and a comparison group of HCs between school grades 1 through 6.METHOD: This study was based on longitu
