Microfinance, Financial Systems and Economic Growth - A Theoretical Framework and Findings from Bolivia

The aim of this thesis is to examine what implications microfinance may have for economic growth by exploring the linkages of microfinance, the financial system and economic growth. Due to the lack of previous studies explicitly linking microfinance to economic growth, the weight of the thesis falls on developing a theoretical framework where the different channels to economic growth can be discer

Fyra forskares informationsförsörjning och bibliotekets roll i denna process : en fallstudie på AstraZeneca R&D i Lund

Information is essential in order for pharmaceutical companies to be successful. This essay focuses on the information provision of pre-clinical scientists at AstraZeneca R&D Lund, and the role of the company library in this process. In semi-structured interviews, four pre-clinical scientists were asked to describe their information provision regarding what type of information they need, how t

A palaeoecological study of Holocene lake sediments above the highest shoreline in the province of Västerbotten, northeast Sweden

Dateringarna visar att sedimentationen i sjön började föA 2.1-m sediment sequence retrieved from Lake Svartkälstjärn, located at 260 m a.s.l. in the province of Västerbotten, Sweden, was subsampled for pollen and spore analysis, charcoal analysis, and influx calculations. The aim was to establish the local environmental development during the Holocene with focus on forest composition, fire frequency, soil erosion, aquatic production, and human impact.

Implementation of a Customs Transit System in the Greater Mekong Subregion: The role of the private sector

Utvecklingen av ekonomiska korridorer är ett huvudinitiativ för främjandet av transport och handel (TTF) inom GMS proThe Greater Mekong Subregion Program is a multi-billion dollar development project, launched with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 1992. It brings together 6 states of the Mekong river basin with a common goal of growth and prosperity through economic co-operation. The development of economic corridors is a major trade and transport facilitation (TTF) initiative under the GMS

Sedimentstratigrafiska och paleohydrologiska undersökningar av Fönesjön och Kalvs Mosse inom Vombslätten, centrala Skåne

This study constitutes a preliminary survey within the project "Lake and groundwater paleohydrology of the Vomb plain, southern Sweden, for quantitative paleoclimatic calibration". The aim of the study is to describe the Holocene sediment stratigraphy of the former lakes Fönesjön and Kalvsjön (Kalvs mosse), and furthermore to describe and date stratgraphical indications of climatically c

Off-axis primary-dose measurements using a mini-phantom

The characterization of the incident photon beam is usually divided into its dependence on collimator setting (head-scatter factor) and off-axis position (primary off-axis ratio). These parameters are normally measured "in air" with a build-up cap, thick enough to generate full dose build-up at the depth of dose maximum. In order to prevent any influence from contaminating electrons, it

Dynamic Capabilities in times of change - A qualitative study exploring the role of Dynamic Capabilities and Business Model Innovation Process in a Smart Mobility sector context.

By utilizing the Dynamic Capabilities Framework (DCF) provided by Teece, this study explores how organizations leverage Dynamic Capabilities (DCs) to address rapid changes in times of change where uncertainty governs. By analyzing the activities that firms perform in relation to the sensing, seizing and transforming capabilities, this study enhances the understanding of how Business Models (BMs) a

Installation of cables for monitoring purposes in the ground by using Horizontal Directional Drilling

The median age for Swedish earth embankment dams is about 60 years. Due to its longevity, one of the major concerns is the internal erosion causing increased seepage through the dam, which ultimately may increases the risk for dam failure. To meet this challenge, there is a need for improved monitoring methods. This in turn requires sensors to be installed inside the earth embankment dams in order

Implementing a sectional scheme for early aerosol growth from new particle formation in the Norwegian Earth System Model v2 : Comparison to observations and climate impacts

Aerosol-cloud interactions contribute to a large portion of the spread in estimates of climate forcing, climate sensitivity and future projections. An important part of this uncertainty is how much new particle formation (NPF) contributes to cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) and, furthermore, how this changes with changes in anthropogenic emissions. Incorporating NPF and early growth in Earth system

Dopamine Neuron Diversity : Recent Advances and Current Challenges in Human Stem Cell Models and Single Cell Sequencing

Human midbrain dopamine (DA) neurons are a heterogeneous group of cells that share a common neurotransmitter phenotype and are in close anatomical proximity but display different functions, sensitivity to degeneration, and axonal innervation targets. The A9 DA neuron subtype controls motor function and is primarily degenerated in Parkinson's disease (PD), whereas A10 neurons are largely unaffected

Effects of human disturbance on postnatal growth and baseline corticosterone in a long-lived bird

Prolonged or repeated episodes of environmental stress could be especially detrimental for developing young, via impaired growth or development. Despite this, most studies investigating the effects of human recreational and tourism activities have focused on adults. An increasing demand for nature-based tourism in remote locations means that many seabirds, which have evolved largely in the absence

Direct response of tree growth to soil water and its implications for terrestrial carbon cycle modelling

Wood growth constitutes the main process for long‐term atmospheric carbon sequestration in vegetation. However, our understanding of the process of wood growth and its response to environmental drivers is limited. Current dynamic global vegetation models (DGVMs) are mainly photosynthesis‐driven and thus do not explicitly include a direct environmental effect on tree growth. However, physiological
