A Phenomenographic Analysis Of Students’ Experience Of Geological Time

Geological time is by many geoscience instructors considered a threshold concept for geoscience students, being acentral concept for how we experience geosceince phenomena that takes place on a spatio-temporal scale rangingfrom micro (e.g. cloud formation) to macro (e.g. plate tectonics). If one wishes to understand geoscience phenomenathat goes beyond human perception, one must move from the conc

Essays on Strategy-proof Social Choice

I denna teori undersöks under vilka förutsättningar det är möjligt att konstruera omröstningsprocedurer (hädanefter kallade för kollektiva valfunktioner) som är strategisäkra i den bemärkelsen att ingen väljare kan ändra utfallet av en omröstning till sin fördel genom att inte rösta enligt sThis thesis makes a contribution to strategy-proof social choice theory, in which one investigates the conditions under which it is possible to construct social choice functions (i.e., voting procedures) that can never be manipulated in the sense that some voter, by misrepresentation of his true preferences, can change the outcome of a voting and obtain an alternative he prefers to the one that ho

Evaluating predictive performance of statistical models explaining wild bee abundance in a mass-flowering crop

Wild bee populations are threatened by current agricultural practices in many parts of the world, which may put pollination services and crop yields at risk. Loss of pollination services can potentially be predicted by models that link bee abundances with landscape‐scale land‐use, but there is little knowledge on the degree to which these statistical models are transferable across time and space. A novel way of behaviour-change delivery: Using a learning management system to improve mood in older adults and light/dark conditions in their homes

How can an online course be designed to promote better mood and improved lighting and darkness conditions in the home? Based on the Information-Motivation-Behaviour Skills Model, the online course comprises multiple components (light, activity and sleep) and various learning strategies. Factual information is provided about, e.g. light as the most potent external time cue for the internal body clo

En-ligt gängse rekommendationer ska kalla vindsutrymmen ventileras On a cold-ventilated attic, there is always an outer roof that must be tight against snow and meltwater, which means that there are also materials in the construction that make it more or less vapour tight. In traditional roofs, the waterproofing layer often consists of an asphalt-impregnated paperboard on a tonged and grooved board. As an alternative to the conventional solution, a less diffusion

Prevalence of diabetic nephropathy, and retinopathy, in type 1 diabetes is declining but it is not known if this is true also for diabetic neuropathy.Aim: To investigate the relationship between large fiber diabetic neuropathy and other diabetic complications.Materials and methods: Neuropathy, defined here as large fiber neuropathy, w

Caspase inhibition increases embryonic striatal graft survival

In transplants of embryonic striatal cells placed into the excitotoxically lesioned rat striatum (a model of Huntington's disease), as many as 60 to 90% of the grafted cells are believed to die. Caspase activation is part of a cascade of events that can lead to apoptosis. Spatial vision in diverse invertebrates

Endast några få djurgrupper har dock, under evolutionens gång, utvecklat verkligt bra ögon som snabbt kan identifiera objekt av djurens eLight-detection provides incomparabaly rapid information at a range of time scales and, consequently, directional photoreception is found in almost every major metazoan clade. Conversely, a much smaller cohort have evolved sophisticated high resolution vision, which facillitates complex tasks via the detection of fast or small objects,. such as courtship and high-speed pursuit of prey. A few such

Chemical and Morphological Characterisation of Aerosol Particles in the Tropopause Region

Med detta påverkar de The aim of this work was to study atmospheric aerosols, focusing on the chemical composition, the morphology and the origin of the aerosol in the upper troposphere and lowermost stratosphere. An aerosol sampler was developed for this purpose. A new method for quantitative analysis of the major components of the aerosol, i.e. C, N and O was developed, and methodologies for single-particle analysis

Microbial Electrochemical System: extracellular electron transfer from photosynthesis and respiration to electrode

Popular Abstract in English The global energy consumption is increasing regularly due to the increased population and economic development. In contrast the primary energy sources, fossil fuels, are declining substantially. The combustion of fossil fuels contributes to the global climate change via greenhouse effects. To minimize these negative effects a carbon-neutral energy production is demandedThe electrochemical communication between microorganisms and electrodes has substantial implications both for basic understanding of biological electron transfer as well as in diverse applications, such as, microbial electrochemical system (MES), microbial biosensors and in production of valuable chemicals. In these systems the extracellular electron transfer (EET) from microbial metabolism to ele

Demanding Values : Participation, empowerment, and NGOs in Bangladesh

Begreppen kräver detaljThe concepts participation and empowerment are frequently used in development projects in the third world. The meaning given to the concepts today signal a normative orientation, marking an alternative, people-centred approach to development. When used in development projects, the concepts demand detailed descriptions. They also demand project implementers, often local NGOs (non-government organis

Organizational creativity and psychological well-being : Contextual aspects on organizational creativity and psychological well-being from an open systems perspective
