Language Observatories

The project operates ‘Language Observatories’ for its interdisciplinary inquiries and teams. These serve as locales for data collection and as methodological test sites, where methods designed to be widely applied in multiple settings can be finalized. The program is inspired by the idea that the human sciences should be concerned with humankind in all its richness, and that the study of lesser-known societies is crucial to our understanding of the true scope of cross-cultural constraints and diversity in language and thought. Furthermore, the proposed research depends on skilled linguist fieldworkers with established field sites and existing digital resources.
