Funding and Hosting
The LACOLA project is funded by a European Research Council Starting Grant, awarded to Niclas Burenhult in 2010. It is hosted by the Humanities Laboratory at the Faculty of Humanities and Theology at Lund University, Sweden. The laboratory represents an outstanding research environment for the project – technologically, intellectually, and administratively. The technology and methodological expertise on offer will be crucial for field applications to several methodological aspects of the project. The project will also make full use of the laboratory’s digital archive for its documentational objectives.
The project is also affiliated to the Language and Cognition Group at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Many of the research questions and methods pursued by LACOLA emanate from this group’s exploratory work on language and landscape, initiated by its director Stephen C. Levinson and coordinated by Burenhult 2005-2008 (see Publications).
