The LACOLA project relies on the collection of first-hand linguistic data from diverse and typically small-scale language communities. To this end, the project maintains a number of field sites in four different continents, representing five different language families. Each such field setting is explored by a project member with expert knowledge of the language(s) studied and with prior field experience of the particular linguistic setting.
