The clusters of roles assumed by historical actors are often said to be located in a three-dimensional social space whose axles correspond to ideological, political, and economic forms of power. Corresponding roughly to these three dimensions of social history, the links below lead to resources on popular perception management and persuasion in the early PRC, on public security and the Maoist surveillance state, and on Chinese people’s everyday lives as producers and consumers under socialism.
