People

The core group of researchers of Helleno-Nordica are spread across three institutions and three countries around the Baltic Sea: Tartu University Library (Estonia), Lund University (Sweden), Helsinki University (Finland).

There are important historical ties between the participant universities; in the early modern period they were connected for political and religious reasons. The universities of Tartu, Turku (Åbo, today Helsinki University) and Lund were modelled on Uppsala University and funded as provincial universities of the Swedish Empire, Tartu and Lund in newly conquered areas.

Given the historic ties of the universities and the collections of their libraries, this is an appropriate group of universities to study the research questions of Helleno-Nordica.
