Cows, Red Cows, Red Herrings: A Diagram Experiment in the Young Peirce
Frederik Stjernfelt (University of Århus)
Peirce Manuscript 725 (early 1870s) ends with a number of sheets with strange drawings. My claim is they form a diagram experiment addressing the semiotics of natural classes. In a certain sense, the experiment fails - but at the same time it throws light upon a Peircean conception of natural kind universals.
